The 37 full papers presented together with one invited paper have been carefully reviewed and selected from 75 submissions. LION deals with designing and engineering ways of'learning'about the performance of different techniques, and ways of using past experience about the algorithm behavior to improve performance in the future. Intelligent learning schemes for mining the knowledge obtained online or offline can improve the algorithm design process and simplify the applications of high-performance optimization methods. Combinations of different algorithms can further improve the robustness and performance of the individual components. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, LION 14 was not held as a physical meeting.

The European Summer School in Logic, Language and Information (ESSLLI) is organized every year by the Association for Logic, Language and Information (FoLLI) in different sites around Europe. The main focus of ESSLLI is on the interface between linguistics, logic and computation. ESSLLI offers foundational, introductory and advanced courses, as well as workshops, covering a wide variety of topics within the three areas of interest: Language and Computation, Language and Logic, and Logic and Computation. The 30 revised full papers presented together with 5 revised short and 8 poster papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 77 submissions. The volume also contains a detailed report about the 17th Annual Graph Drawing Contest, held as a satellite event of GD 2010. Devoted both to theoretical advances as well as to implemented solutions, the papers are concerned with the geometric representation of graphs and networks and are motivated by those applications where it is crucial to visualize structural information as graphs.

rd This book constitutes a collection of extended versions of papers presented at the 23 IFIP TC7 Conference on System Modeling and Optimization, which was held in C- cow, Poland, on July 23–27, 2007. It contains 7 plenary and 22 contributed articles, the latter selected via a peer reviewing process. Most of the papers are concerned with optimization and optimal control. Some of them deal with practical issues, e. g., p- formance-based design for seismic risk reduction, or evolutionary optimization in structural engineering. Many contributions concern optimization of infini- dimensional systems, ranging from a general overview of the variational analysis, through optimization and sensitivity analysis of PDE systems, to optimal control of neutral systems. A significant group of papers is devoted to shape analysis and opti- zation. Sufficient optimality conditions for ODE problems, and stochastic control methods applied to mathematical finance, are also investigated. The remaining papers are on mathematical programming, modeling, and information technology. The conference was the 23rd event in the series of such meetings biennially org- ized under the auspices of the Seventh Technical Committee “Systems Modeling and Optimization” of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP TC7).

The 33rd International Conference “Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in Computer Science” (WG 2007) took place in the Conference Center in old castleinDornburgnearJena,Germany,June21–23,2007.Theapproximately80 participants came from various countries all over the world, among them Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, UK, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, and the USA. WG 2007 continued the series of 32 previous WG conferences. Since 1975, the WG conference has taken place 20 times in Germany, four times in The Netherlands, twice in Austria as well as once in Italy, Slovakia, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, France and in Norway. The WG conference traditionally aims at uniting theory and practice by demonstrating how graph-theoretic concepts can be applied to various areas in computer science, or by extracting new problems from applications. The goal is to present recent researchresults and to identify and exploredirections of future research. Thecontinuinginterestinthe WGconferenceswasre?ectedin thehighn- ber of submissions; 99 papers were submitted and in an evaluation process with four reports per submission, 30 papers were accepted by the Program Comm- tee for the conference. Due to the high number of submissions and the limited schedule of 3 days, various good papers could not be accepted. There were invited talks by Ming-Yang Kao (Evanston, Illinois) on algori- mic DNA assembly, and by Klaus Jansen (Kiel, Germany) on approximation algorithms for geometric intersection graphs.

This volume contains a selection of the papers presented at the Sixth Int- national Conference on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling (PATAT) which was organized in Brno, Czech Republic, from August 30 to September 1 of 2006. The PATAT conferences, which are held every 2 years, bring together - searchers and practitioners from across the broad spectrum of inter-disciplinary research activity in search methodologies for automated timetable generation. This includes university timetabling, school timetabling, personnel rostering, transportation timetabling, sports scheduling. The programme of the 2006 c- ference featured 70 presentations which represented the state of the art in au- mated timetabling: there were four plenary papers, 17 full papers, 41 extended abstracts, and eight system demonstrations. After the conference, all authors were invited to submit their papers to a second round of rigorous refereeing for this volume of selected revised papers. We are pleased to have accepted 25 - pers for this volume. This?gure represents the highest number of acceptances in a PATAT post-proceedings volume and is a testament to the high standards of the papers that were submitted. The organization of the book is structured around particular problem areas.

The papers cover all aspects of artificial intelligence in computer-game playing. Topics addressed include evaluation and learning, search, single-agent search and planning, and computer Go.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Learning and Optimization, LION 8, which was held in Gainesville, FL, USA, in February 2014. The 33 contributions presented were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this book. A large variety of topics are covered, such as algorithm configuration; multiobjective optimization; metaheuristics; graphs and networks; logistics and transportation; and biomedical applications.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Learning and Optimization, LION 7, which was held in Catania, Italy, in January 2013. The 49 contributions presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 101 submissions. They explore the intersections and uncharted territories between machine learning, artificial intelligence, mathematical programming and algorithms for hard optimization problems.

These are the proceedings of the Workshop on Sequences, Subsequences, and Consequences that was held at the University of Southern California (USC), May 31 - June 2, 2007. There were three one-hour Keynote lectures, 16 invited talks of up to 45 minutes each, and 1 “contributed” paper. The theory of sequences from discrete symbol alphabets has found practical applications in many areas of coded communications and in cryptography, - cluding: signal patterns for use in radar and sonar; spectral spreading sequences for CDMA wireless telephony; key streams for direct sequence stream-cipher cryptography; and a variety of forward-error-correctingcodes. The workshopwasdesigned to bring leading researcherson “sequences”from aroundtheworldtopresenttheirlatestresults,interchangeinformationwithone another, and especially to inform the larger audience of interested participants, includingfaculty,researchers,scholars,andstudentsfromnumerousinstitutions, as well as the readers of these proceedings, about recent developments in this important?eld. There were invited speakers from Canada, China, Germany, India, Israel, Norway, Puerto Rico, and South Korea, in addition to those from the USA. Thisvolumecontainsaselectionofpapersfromthe4thInternationalConference on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling (PATAT 2002) held in Gent, August 21–23, 2002. Since the?rst conference in Edinburgh in 1995, the range of timetabling applications at the conferences has become broader and more diverse. In the s- ected papers volume from the 1995 conference, there were just two contributions (out of 22) which did not speci?cally address school and university timetabling. In the selected papers volume from the 1997 conference in Toronto, the number of papers which tackled non-educational problems increased. Two of the papers addressed more than one timetabling application. In both of these papers, educational applications were considered in addition to other applications. A further three papers were concerned with non-educational applications. The conference steering and programme committees have worked hard to attract a wide range of timetabling applications. In the conference held in Konstanz in 2000, the diversi?cation of timetabling problems increased signi?cantly. Of the 21 selected papers in the postconference volume, just 13 were speci?cally concerned with educational timetabling. In the previous volumes, the papers had been sectioned according to solution technique. In the Konstanz volume the papers were classi?ed according to application domains. One section of the volume was entitled “Employee Timetabling,” while sports timetabling, air?eet scheduling, and general software architectures for timetabling were also represented. In the present volume, more than one-third of the 21 papers discuss problems in application areas other than academic and educational ones. Sports timetabling and hospital timetabling are particularly wellrepresented.

The refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Developments in Language Theory, DLT 2002, held in Kyoto, Japan in September 2002. The 28 revised full papers presented together with 8 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 63 submissions. Among the topics addressed are grammars and acceptors for strings, graphs, arrays, etc; efficient algorithms for languages; combinatorial and algebraic properties of languages; decision problems; relations to complexity theory, logic picture description and analysis, DNA computing, cryptography, concurrency, quantum computing, and algebraic systems.
