This paper studies the role of local and global publishers within current Latin-American cultural production. The paper focuses on the editorial success of Cuban writer Pedro Juan Gutiérrez, as an example of global distribution of a dirty bestseller, and on the status achieved by cult Colombian writer Rubén Vélez, in order to examine the most significant tendencies in the local and global Latin-American publishing industry. Furthermore, it offers a reflection on the promotion and distribution of these authors through the houses that publish them: Anagrama (Barcelona) and Babilonia (Bogotá). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
