Digital transformation and sustainability are both at the forefront of current supply chain developments. However, the specific mechanisms of how digital transformation and green supply chain development interact still need to be clarified, which can help supply chain business operators to enhance supply chain sustainability more effectively. This paper focuses on how the companies' organization structure and the socio-economic environment interact with digital technologies under the process of green supply chain development. Based on the "Technology–Organization–Environment" (TOE) framework, this paper analyze how digital transformation can drive green supply chain development. To test the TOE theoretical analysis framework, this paper calculates the digital transformation and green supply chain development index at the provincial level in China and conducts an empirical study. The main findings and implications of this paper can be summarized in the following aspects: First, according to the TOE theory, the external environment dimensions, such as the market and policy environments, affect the role of digital technology in promoting GSC development. Second, in the organizational dimensions, labor–capital relations, company size, and ownership factors can all affect the contribution of digital transformation to green supply chains. The increasing prominence of climate change, geopolitical crises, and global economic slowdown highlights the challenges and structural deficiencies of traditional cross-border agro-food supply chains. As a result, there has been a growing consensus on the need to leverage digital technology to rebuild and innovate a safe, stable, and sustainable global food system. This study assessed the knowledge progress and development trends in the sustainable development of cross-border agro-food supply chains enabled by digital technology. A total of 352 authoritative papers from the core Web of Science database were selected for analysis. The Citespace tool was utilized to visually examine research elements. The findings reveal that research outcomes in this territory experienced a significant period of rapid growth, particularly after 2020. Sustainability and IEEE Access are the journals with the highest and second-highest number of publications. China and the France National Institute are the countries and research institutions with the largest number of publications in this field. The research hotspots are mainly the application of digital technologies, food safety, and supply chain system model innovation. In the past ten years, the research in this territory has gone through three stages: precise timeliness orientation, intelligent strategic decision-making orientation, and model predictability orientation. We further construct the 'antecedent–practice–performance' conceptual framework of the sustainability of the digital technology-enabled cross-border agro-food supply chain. Finally, this paper presents the potential research directions in this territory, focusing on four aspects: research method, research mechanism, research topic, and research frontier. The rapid development of the new generation of digital technology has injected new vitality into the digital transformation (DT) and continued growth of enterprises. This paper selects data from China's A-share listed companies from 2010 to 2019 and uses transaction cost theory to empirically test the effect of enterprise digital transformation (EDT) on enterprise growth and its mechanism. Research has found that DT can significantly promote enterprise growth. The reduction of supply chain collaboration costs plays an important role as an intermediary mechanism in this process. At the same time, industry competition intensity, regional marketization level, and digital infrastructure level have played positive regulatory roles. In addition, when the enterprise's level of financing constraints is low and it is a manufacturing enterprise or state-owned enterprise, the promotion effect of EDT on enterprise growth is more significant. While expanding the research perspective and measurement methods of EDT, this paper integrates the strategic actions of EDT and the inter-enterprise collaboration costs of the supply chain into a unified theoretical framework, revealing a new theoretical mechanism for DT to promote enterprise growth. Supply chains are a critical aspect of how the economy works, but they are not often highly visible. The paper aims to emphasize the potential risks that may arise in the process of global supply chains. Namely, in the past, various crises appeared quickly and threw new risks into the supply chain. In this paper, attempts have been made through desktop research of relevant publications and analysis of some practices to identify various risks caused by COVID-19 and to propose strategies for dealing with them. Several scientific research methods were used during the work of the paper: analysis and synthesis, the method of induction and deduction, and descriptive analysis. The main challenges were uncertainty in demand, logistical disruptions, and dependence on China as a supply chain partner. Regarding the solutions, every challenge needs a different approach, and the solution can vary in the industry and the region. The main proposed solutions were focused on the improvement of operational flexibility, digital and advanced technologies, localized supply sources, and resilient sourcing strategy. The spatial spillover of food safety risks and the regional mobility of food enterprises make territorial governance inefficient, which calls for interregional collaboration to enhance food safety in the context of territorial governance. However, due to the lack of a collaborative food safety governance scheme, there has been no substantial progress in interregional collaboration for food safety governance in China. Therefore, this paper refines the three key elements of collaboration from the perspective of supply chain, economy and geography and puts forward the optimal zoning scheme of interregional collaboration for food safety governance. By analysing the evolution trend of interregional collaboration, we found China has already produced the germination of interregional collaboration in terms of food safety issues, though it has been slow and volatile. To promote the process of interregional collaboration, this paper also analyses the determinants of the coordinated regulatory performance of food safety. The results show that collaborative actions within regions can facilitate coordinated regulatory practice. The interregional difference in regulatory intensity and consumption patterns hinder the interregional collaboration for food safety governance, while the interregional difference in industrial structure inversely promotes the coordinated regulatory performance. Digital transformation provides companies with a productive approach to transforming and upgrading enterprise resources and capabilities and to exploiting external subject forces to unleash and magnify their potential, thus advancing high-quality enterprise development. Therefore, using regression analysis of the data of China's non-financial listed firms from 2007-2019 obtained by Python, this paper finds that digital transformation has enormously improved enterprise performance. Furthermore, digital transformation has powerfully boosted supply chain integration, which has played a mediation role in the impact of digital transformation on enterprise performance. Finally, entrepreneurship plays a positive moderating effect on enterprise performance through supply chain integration during digital transformation. The further heterogeneity analysis finds that digital transformation performs better in large, public, state-owned, mature, and non-manufacturing (service industry) enterprises. However, the positive effect of digital transformation on enterprise performance and supply chain integration is not significant in small and medium-sized enterprises. Therefore, supply chain integration cannot play a mediating role in the impact of digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises upon their performance. Purpose: There has been limited research that has explored the connection between digital supply chain (DSC) and SC innovation and SC dynamic capabilities. This paper aims to examine the mediating effect of SC innovation on the relationship between DSC and SC dynamic capabilities. Design/methodology/approach: The research model and hypotheses were tested, employing (Statistical Package of Social Sciences) SPSS 25.0 and (Analysis of Moment Structures) AMOS 24.0 on data drawn from the Chinese manufacturing enterprises. Findings: The study reveals that DSC has a significant positive effect on SC innovation and SC dynamic capabilities. SC innovation also has a significant positive effect on SC dynamic capabilities. Besides, the authors' research illustrates that SC innovation partially mediates the relationship between DSC and SC dynamic capabilities. Research limitations/implications: Since the results are derived from the data collected from China, it may not, therefore, be generalized to other settings. Moreover, future research could consider other contextual variables such as "environmental uncertainty" and "Government's Reward-Penalty Mechanism," which may influence SC dynamic capabilities. Practical implications: The study provides practical insights for senior executives and managers in the manufacturing industry. Managers should emphasize the investment of advanced digital technologies and tools (DTTs) and improvement of SC visibility and collaboration. In the digital age, companies should pay attention to the introduction of advanced technologies, tools and processes and focus on cultivating an innovative spirit to promote SC dynamic capabilities, thereby enhancing competitive advantages. Cooperation among enterprises can bring overall and individual performance improvement, and a smooth coordination method is indispensable. However, due to the lack of customized coordination methods, cooperation in the downstream oil supply chain cannot be carried out smoothly. This paper intends to propose a multi-party coordination method to promote cooperation between oil shippers and pipeline operator by optimizing oil transportation, oil substitution and pipeline pricing schemes. An integrated game-theoretic modeling and analysis approach is developed to characterize the operation behaviors of all stakeholders in the downstream oil supply chain. The proposed mixed integer nonlinear programming model constrains supply and demand capacity, transportation routes, oil substitution rules and pipeline freight levels. Logarithm transformation and price discretization are introduced for model linear approximation. Simulation experiments are carried out in the oil distribution system in South China. The results show that compared to the business-as-usual scheme, the new scheme saves transportation cost by 3.48%, increases pipeline turnover by 5.7%, and reduces energy consumption and emissions by 7.66% and 6.77%. It is proved that the proposed method improves the revenue of the whole system, achieves fair revenue distribution, and also improves the energy and environmental benefits of the oil supply chain. This research investigates how supply chain finance (SCF) affects the investment efficiency of new energy firms by adopting a sample of Chinese listed new energy enterprises from 2011 to 2019. With the help of data envelopment analysis (DEA) combined with the Banker-Charnes-Cooper (BCC) model, we calculate efficiency values and analyze the regression results of the Tobit model, and find that SCF significantly boosts the investment efficiency of new energy corporations by improving their cash-holding position. The results of mechanism analysis also suggest that both supply chain concentration and digital finance positively magnify the relation between SCF and corporate efficiency. After comparing the impact in the new energy firms with different characteristics, we conclude that the SCF effect in promoting corporate investment efficiency is more prominent for non-stateowned new energy enterprises located in the western region that have low equity concentration. This paper analyses military-grade AI initiatives by the United States (US) and China in the cyber domain. It sheds light on these nations’ strategic priorities and implications for the ever-changing landscape of AI-driven cybersecurity. Since 1949, with evolving dynamics among China, the US, and Taiwan, marked by the unresolved civil war and the inception of the Taiwan Relations Act, China has emerged as a potential rival and the US as a possible ally. Understanding the disparity in their AI interests is now vital for Taiwan. Do so to avoid a lag in the swiftly advancing realm of AI-driven cybersecurity. Recognising this urgency, Taiwan should contemplate strategic adjustments to bridge the gap between China and the US in this domain. Our analysis reveals that the US and China prioritise addressing supply chain vulnerabilities but differ in their secondary priorities for various reasons. For the US, the secondary focus lies in enhancing defence capabilities, whereas China emphasises augmenting intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). These commonalities and differences in direction are discussed in the context of the two nations’ respective national strategies and current situations. Thus, this paper contributes to Taiwan’s proactive consideration of information to help shape its cybersecurity strategy and ensure Taiwan remains competitive in an increasingly AI-centric world. Taking China's A-share listed manufacturing enterprises from 2014 to 2020 as objects, this paper discusses the impact and mechanism of corporate digital transformation on supply chain relationship transactions from the perspectives of information asymmetry and agency costs. The findings show that digital transformation significantly inhibits the supply chain relational transactions; the mechanism testing results reveal that digital transformation is conducive to the alleviation of information asymmetry and agency costs, which thereby reduces the degree of supply chain relational transactions; the regulatory effect analysis demonstrates that the impact of digital transformation on supply chain relationship transactions becomes more significant in non-high-tech enterprises and enterprises with less fierce industry competition. Purpose: As an effective mode to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) raise working capital, supply chain finance has recently gained extensive attention. The purpose of this paper is to explore the intrinsic mechanism of how both weak and strong ties in the supply chain network impact the supply chain financing performance (SCFP) of SMEs from the perspective of the supply chain network. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the extended resource-based perspective, this paper proposes a theoretical model to explain the mode in which strong ties and weak ties of SMEs in the supply chain network influence SCFP through both physical distribution flexibility and demand management flexibility. Based on data from 182 manufacturing firms in China, this paper uses multiple regression analysis to test hypotheses. Findings: The results of this paper indicate that weak ties improve SCFP more effectively than strong ties. Furthermore, both physical distribution flexibility and demand management flexibility exert different mediating roles either between strong ties and SCFP or between weak ties and SCFP. Moreover, the effect of physical distribution flexibility and demand management flexibility on SCFP of SMEs is not reinforced. Purpose: This study aims to explore the impact of carbon neutral announcements on "stock market value" of publicly listed companies in China. Design/methodology/approach: The event study approach is adopted. Market, market-adjusted, Carhart four-factor model and a cross-sectional regression model are employed to examine the impacts of carbon neutral announcements on "stock market value" of Chinese companies based on data from 188 carbon neutral announcements. Findings: Carbon neutral announcements positively impact Chinese shareholder value. Carbon neutral announcements at the strategic level have a more positive and significant impact on Chinese stock market value. Innovative carbon neutral announcements do not significantly cause Chinese stock market reactions. Companies have more positive and significant stock market reactions when the companies make carbon neutral announcements that reflect high supply chain network resilience and heterogeneity and strong supply chain network relationships. Practical implications: The findings uncover the business value of carbon neutral activities and provide operations managers in developing countries insights into how to improve enterprises' market value by actively implementing carbon neutral activities. Originality/value: This paper is the first trial to apply an event study to examine the relationship between carbon neutral announcements and Chinese stock market value from the perspective of announcement level and type and supply chain networks. Introduction: The fragility of agriculture makes the food supply chain vulnerable to external risks such as epidemic, conflict, disaster, climate change, economic and energy crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic has spread and continued globally in recent years, resulting in food supply chain disruption and insecurity, which triggers profound reflection on the impacts of public health events (PHEs). Studying the impacts of PHEs on the resilience of food supply chain has great significance to effectively reduce the risks of disruption and insecurity in the future. Methods: Based on the composition of PHEs and the division of food supply chain, this paper adopted the nonlinear Granger causality test to verify the nonlinear causal relationship between PHEs and proxy variables in the food supply chain; then the TVP-VAR-SV model was constructed and its three-dimensional pulse response results were matched with the sensitivity, recovery, and adaptation of the food supply chain resilience to deeply explore the dynamic impacts of PHEs. Results: PHEs has significant nonlinear conduction effects on the resilience of food supply chain, the impacts of PHEs on the partial sector resilience have significant dynamic characteristics in the whole sample period, and the impacts of PHEs on the recovery and adaptation aspects of food supply chain resilience have structural break characteristics. Discussion: The differences, dynamic characteristics and structural breaks of the impacts of PHEs on the resilience of food supply chain are caused by the infectivity and mortality of PHEs, attributes of food products, regulation of supply and demand in the market, behavioral decisions of all participants, changes in the policy environment, and coordination and upgrading of all sectors in the supply chain. In the past few years, drones have been adopted as a novel delivery tool towards medical supplies, improving delivery service efficiency due to fast speed and neglection of geographical limitations. However, the flight endurance of a battery‐operated drone is limited for long‐distance medical supplies delivery operations. Recharging stations, as a kind of drone facility, allow multiple stops for drones to supplement the power to overcome the flight‐range limitations. This paper studies drone‐assisted long‐distance medical supplies delivery with recharging stations in rural communities by a mixed integer linear programming model. To illustrate the applicability of this model and explore the key factors influencing delivery efficiency of medical supplies, a case study from China is conducted. The results indicate that enhancements on the speed of a truck or a drone can yield considerable delivery cost reduction. This paper firstly demonstrates the positive and negative effects of supply chain finance on the innovation efficiency of China's small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing industry from the theoretical point of view. Based on the data of 267 manufacturing companies in China Growth Enterprise Market from 2015 to 2019, the DEA-SBM method was used to measure the comprehensive innovation efficiency of different companies, and it was further decomposed into technological innovation efficiency and organizational innovation efficiency. Afterwards, it conducts an empirical analysis through the double fixed effect model, and explores the difference in the impact of supply chain finance on innovation efficiency in enterprises with different industries and different property rights. The results show that supply chain financial services have a strong positive impact on the comprehensive innovation efficiency, technological innovation efficiency and organizational innovation efficiency of manufacturing SMEs. Further, supply chain finance has the most significant improvement on the technological innovation efficiency of the sample of private traditional enterprises, but it has a significant inhibitory effect on the organizational innovation efficiency of the sample of state-owned high-tech enterprises. Therefore, this paper suggests that the development of supply chain financial services should increase support for traditional manufacturing industries; appropriately tilt resources to private enterprises; improve relevant supply chain financial laws and regulations, establish and improve corresponding institutional arrangements, and encourage state-owned enterprises to participate in market competition. In recent years, global environmental problems such as air pollution and the greenhouse effect have become more and more serious. The utilization of biomass energy not only can promote low-carbon transformation to establish a competitive advantage through value creation under the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality but is also an important force in solving environmental problems. Government subsidy policies play an important role in promoting the development of biomass energy utilization. Taking straw as an example, this paper constructs a straw recycling supply chain system dynamics model consisting of farmers, acquisition stations, power plants, and pyrolysis plants based on a real-world case. Two types of straw processing, namely power generation and pyrolysis, are considered in the model. This paper analyzes the economic and environmental impacts of three subsidy policies, namely the unified rate policy, the linear growth policy, and a two-step policy, by comparing the profit, carbon, and pollution emission reduction benefits of the supply chain under different subsidy scenarios. The result shows that, among the three subsidy policies, the unified rate policy shows the best-promoting effect. Purpose: This study aims to explore the impact of supply chain governance (SCG) on supply chain resilience (SCR) in China, as well as the mediating role of supply chain finance (SCF) and the moderating role of digital technology adoption (DTA). Design/methodology/approach: Based on resource orchestration theory (ROT), this paper constructs a theoretical model to examine the influence of SCG on SCR. Employing data collected from 312 Chinese firms, multiple regression is conducted to test the theoretical hypotheses. Findings: The results indicate that both relational governance (RG) and contractual governance (CG) significantly enhance SCR and SCF. In addition, SCF plays a mediating role in the relationship between SCG and SCR. The study also finds that DTA has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between SCG and SCF. Originality/value: First, based on ROT, this paper clarifies the nuanced driving effects of RG and CG on SCR. Second, SCF is introduced as an intermediary process between SCG and SCR, which reveals the inner mechanisms between SCG and SCR. Enterprise financialization will block the equipment update and technological innovation of enterprises by crowding out the main business funds. The risks and benefits of supply chain concentration will affect the enterprise financialization. This paper selects the panel data of A-share listed companies in China from 2009 to 2021, and uses fixed effect regression to analyze the impact of supply chain concentration on enterprise financialization. The conclusions show: both suppliers and customers concentration significantly promote the financialization of enterprises, and this conclusion is still valid after a series of tests; This kind of financialization effect is heterogeneous in four aspects: the nature of property rights, the scale of enterprises, the intensity of industrial competition and the level of economic development in the region where the enterprises are located; the mechanism analysis show that customer concentration can affect enterprise financialization through upstream commercial credit, but supplier concentration cannot affect enterprise financialization through downstream commercial credit. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore an under-researched topic of supply chain followership (SCF) in the context of recycling chains. Design/methodology/approach: Following a multiple case study approach, the authors conducted interviews with Tetra Pak senior managers and recyclers who recycle used beverage cartons (UBCs) in China. Findings: Based on the dimensions of critical thinking and active engagement, the authors classify SCF into four types. Focal companies could evaluate their suppliers' behaviours and followership types to initiate corresponding strategies to better manage their relationships. In addition, the authors found SCF to be a dynamic concept, which can be constantly evaluated. Originality/value: This study is one of the earliest efforts to empirically explore the concept of SCF. The paper extends the followership concept from an individual level to an organizational level in the recycling chain context and presents a useful concept of followership for companies seeking to manage their supply chain relationships. The design of a supply chain network (SCN) should address two conflicting objectives, i.e. inexpensive yet reliable operation. This paper presents models to choose supply facilities and determine distribution options while considering the expected risk of not serving customers attributed to supply shortages. The goal is to design a reliable network with a lower cost under traditional cost objectives. We formulate a stochastic mixed-integer biobjective programming model considering the protection of facilities and solve this problem with a progressive hedging algorithm (PHA). We examine the tradeoff curve between the cost and risk through a case study involving Shanghai in China. Recently, sustainable economic performance (SEP) has been the foremost requirement due to uncertainty of the economy and environment. This issue needs best practices and governance and also needs researchers' focus. Thereby, the paper aims to assess green supply chain (SC) practices, green SC governance and their role in the achievement of SEP in the manufacturing sector of China. The paper also attempts to explore the moderating effect of organizational support in proposed framework. PLS-SEM model was employed to test model's reliability and validity. The very same method has applied to test the linkage among outlined constructs. Obtained results confirms the moderating impact of organizational support among traditional governance, relational governance and the achievement of SEP in the manufacturing industry in China. This paper applies a structural decomposition of the input-output tables to investigate the sources of changes in the GDP of China, paying special attention to the import substitution of intermediate inputs. It is argued that the specific way GDP is decomposed in this paper sheds more light on the origin of growth than does the conventional decomposition of GDP by its final demand components. The results of the decomposition show that import substitution of intermediate products, which is an act of de-globalization of trade and a model of industrialization some Asian newly industrializing economies followed decades earlier, also became important in China, but only belatedly: in 2011–2012 and 2013–2014. The phenomenon is found to be significant in the manufacture of (i) computer, electronic and optical products, (ii) chemicals and chemical products, (iii) coke and refined petroleum products, and (iv) basic metals. Off-site construction (OSC) is an innovative construction method. However, OSC is not widely applied in residential buildings due to many barriers. Therefore, this paper aims to unravel this puzzle and interpret the slow development of OSC. The paper develops a new analytical lens based on the ecosystem concept. By deconstructing some ecosystem concepts, the paper conceptualizes China's residential building industry ecosystem (RBI-ECO) and proposes three hypotheses. The results show that the current structure of RBI-ECO does not support OSC development. Firstly, the performance of different types of enterprises is imbalanced. Secondly, there is a lack of cooperation between enterprises except for daily communication of projects. Moral risks, competition, and a fragmented supply chain are the primary causes. These barriers in RBI-ECO limit the implementation of OSC. In order to promote the application of OSC, the government can implement mandatory policies and concrete measures, establish a designer-led mechanism, motivate enterprises to transform into comprehensive enterprises, and enhance learning and education for OSC enterprise managers. Large-scale transport systems project expansive geographical reach via far-reaching connectivity and spillovers. This phenomenon, however, is understudied for its impact on economic and spatial relations across geographic scales and economic domains and the mechanism carrying and transmitting that impact. Despite its short existence, the China–Europe Freight Train (CEFT) has already created a long geographical reach and major impact on the transport landscape spanning China, Central Asia, and Europe. This paper argues that a new logistics state in China at the local level is driving and sustaining the CEFT from below relative to the national government and market forces. Using the ancient city of Xi'an as a characteristic embodiment of a logistics state, this paper demonstrates how the logistics state-driven CEFT has multiplied routes and redirected trade flows between China and Europe, reorganized inter-city and cross-border production and supply chains from China to Europe, stimulated a new geography of globally oriented and nationally rebalanced local consumption in China, and fueled major new development in an ancient and economically lagging city. Today, e-commerce allows consumers access to a wide range of products on the global market, quick and convenient selection, purchase, ordering, and payment of products. Consumers expect to receive the products they bought online, very quickly, at favorable prices and delivery conditions. However, it is often not possible, because global supply chains are realized over large geographical distances, with a whole range of disruptions and challenges that need to be successfully overcome. With the aim of efficiently delivering products and meeting consumer expectations, retailers often leave this job to specialized and resilient logistics companies better known as fourth-party logistics (4PL) providers. On this occasion, it is necessary to conduct a very thorough evaluation of the logistics provider based on appropriate scientific approaches and models. In this paper, a new hybrid approach for the evaluation of resilient 4PLs was proposed, with the aim of providing appropriate support for the decision-making system on product delivery in e-commerce. The hybrid approach is based on the fuzzy full consistency method (FUCOM), evidence theory (ET), rule-based transformation (RBT), and weighted aggregated sum product assessment (WASPAS) methods. The proposed model was tested and applied to an example of an online retailer, which sells and delivers products originating from China and the countries of the Far East to the market of the Western Balkans and Southeastern Europe. Five 4PL providers were evaluated and ranked according to 10 criteria. According to the results, the most important criterion was IT capabilities, while the least important was cooperation. Additionally, sensitivity analysis was carried out to determine whether the final ranking will change. The obtained results showed that the proposed methodology represents a valuable decision support tool that can be used for solving not only the problem described in this paper but also similar problems. This paper makes an initial attempt to develop a theory of supply chain resilience through ambidexterity in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted a single-case analysis focusing on Zong-Teng Group, one of the biggest cross-border e-commerce enterprises in China, as our sample. Data were mainly collected from interviews with Zong-Teng managers and public online resources. Through case analysis, this paper identifies that a fit between the information processing requirements of a firm and its information processing capability leads to greater ambidexterity for exploitation and exploration, which in turn improves supply chain resilience (SCR) in the form of agility, redundancy and flexibility. In addition, ambidexterity in terms of morality improves SCR culture. This paper may be the first to adopt information processing theory to examine SCR and consider the role of ambidexterity, noting that crises such as COVID-19 impose an exponential increase in information processing requirements, to which many firms fail to respond effectively. Purpose: Little is known about the effects of supply chain finance (SCF) adoption on organizational performance (OP). This study aims to address this relevant research gap, and hence draws on the dynamic capability view of the organization under the contingent effect of environmental dynamism (ED) and supply chain risk (SCR) to investigate the effects of SCF adoption on OP. Design/methodology/approach: A conceptual framework is developed and then tested using survey with data collected from a cross section of 217 organizations in China. Findings: The findings show that SCF significantly mitigates the SCR, which therefore has a strong positive effect on OP (e.g. cost performance and operational performance). Moreover, the findings indicate that when ED is high, then the relationship between SCF and SCR is stronger, whereas when ED is low, the relationship between SCF and SCR is weak. Further, SCR mediates the relationship between SCF and OP. Hypothesis regarding the moderating effect of ED on the paths joining SCF and SCR was also confirmed. SCR has a strong negative effect on OP. However, hypothesis regarding the effect of ED on SCR was rejected. Research limitations/implications: This paper has the following limitations. First, the authors conducted the study with organizations in China, which may result in low generalizability. Moreover, the authors used survey method and cross-sectional data design in this paper, which may cause the potential issue of common method bias. However, this research provided some significant theoretical and managerial implications for organizations, practitioners and researchers, while exploring different factors such SCF, SCR and ED, and their effect on organizational output. Practical implications: From the managerial perspective, this study provides some relevant new insights to the supply chain managers of organizations. First, the findings of present study guide the organization executives to mitigate their organizations' risk through risk mitigation strategies such as SCF; optimize their liquidity and working capital while getting the credit at best cost from lenders; and mitigate vulnerability. Second, organizations should adopt vulnerability strategies for improving their capability to respond promptly and cost-effectively toward uncertainties. Third, the perfect identification of factors leading to the adoption of SCF and improving OP are of incredible attractiveness for executives to discover the relevant practice of SCF. Fourth, the results also offer an opportunity to organizations and practitioners, a decision-making approach, to manage which mitigation scheme to be adopted to aid the supply chain practices of mitigation. Moreover, SCF emphasizes that the organization managers' expand their overall supply chain by getting easy credit and reducing the risk and produce higher organizational productivity. Further, this paper offers a completive advantage for both buyers and suppliers to strengthen their relationships while collaborating with each other. The supply chain executives may explore the level of relationship amongst SCF adoption and their effects on organizational productivity. Therefore, SCF provides equal competitive advantage to both main partners of the supply chain to mitigate the overall risks and improve their competiveness. Companies that are investing in blockchain technology to enhance supply chain transparency face challenges in fostering collaborations with others and deciding what information to share. Transparency over the actions of supply chain partners can improve operational decisions, but sharing own data on the blockchain can put firms at a competitive disadvantage. In this paper, we investigate the resulting questions of when blockchain should be adopted in a supply chain and how it should be designed by analyzing two ways that it can enhance supply chain transparency: making the manufacturer's sourcing cost transparent to the buyers (i.e., vertical cost transparency) and making the ordering status of buyers transparent to each other (i.e., horizontal order transparency). Given such transparency, firms can design a smart contract that automates transactions contingent on the revealed information and enables them to realize better equilibrium outcomes. We find that blockchain increases supply chain profit only when the manufacturer's capacity is large and decreases supply chain profit otherwise. If the capacity is sufficiently large to eliminate the buyers' competition, blockchain leads to a win–win–win and the incentives of all participants are naturally aligned. If the capacity is only moderately large, the manufacturer needs to compensate the buyers to facilitate a blockchain implementation. However, if the capacity is small, horizontal order transparency enabled by the blockchain mitigates the buyers' overorder incentive to compete for the manufacturer's capacity and increases double marginalization. For such cases, we show that a blockchain that only enables vertical cost transparency should (and can) still be adopted in a range of small capacity cases, and we propose an access control layer for the logistics data to implement such a blockchain. Purpose: Food sustainability is a world-acknowledged issue that requires urgent integrated solutions at multi-levels. This study aims to explore how food firms can improve their sustainability performance through digital traceability practices, considering the mediating effect of sustainability-oriented innovation (SOI) and the moderating effect of supply chain learning (SCL) for the food supply chain therein. Design/methodology/approach: Hierarchical regression with a moderated mediation model is used to test the proposed hypotheses with a sample of 359 food firms from four provinces in China. Findings: Digital traceability has a significant positive impact on the three pillars of sustainability performances among food firms. SOI (product innovation, process innovation and organisational innovation) mediates the relationship between digital traceability and sustainability performance. SCL plays moderating roles in the linkage between digital traceability and both product and process innovation, respectively. Originality/value: This paper contributes as one of the first studies to develop digital traceability practices and their sustainability-related improvements for Chinese food firms; it extends studies on supply chain traceability to a typical emerging market. Under the influence of COVID‐19, although upstream small‐ and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) in construction industry chain suffer from high operating costs and tight cash flow problems, their financing demands are even stronger. As an electronic and platform‐based comprehensive service, online supply chain finance can ease the financing problems of SMEs in the construction industry. However, it has become an important issue for financial institutions to effectively assess the credit risk in the process of online supply chain financing. In this paper, an online supply chain risk assessment method, which is based on a hybrid model chain, including eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Synthetic Minority Oversampling TEchnique for Nominal and Continuous (SMOTENC), and Random Forest (RF), is proposed to identify and control the credit risk of financial institutions. Specifically, we establish the financial credit risk assessment system with respect to the characteristics of financing enterprises in the construction industry supply chain, including the status of financing enterprises, the status of core enterprises, the operating status of the supply chain, and the status of assets under financing. On the basis of the system, the best index number of the assessment system and the minority samples are obtained by the XGBoost algorithm and the SMOTENC algorithm, respectively. The classification method based on RF is applied to judge the credit risk of financing enterprises in the supply chain of construction industry. In the simulation stage, we take upstream SMEs in the supply chain of construction industry in China as an example for empirical analysis to validate the effectiveness of our proposed method. The credit risk assessment method proposed in this paper has better performance than the commonly used ones in the academic field with an average improvement on assessment accuracy for 6.39% and an average increase of Area Under Curve for 6.95%. The carbon emissions of the beer industry have always been a concern. To reduce environmental pollution, this paper systematically calculates the carbon emissions of the beer supply chain and studies the optimization of carbon emissions reduction through scenario simulation. In this study, the boundary of the beer supply chain carbon emissions system is constructed. The scenario simulation and simulation analysis are carried out based on five factors: water recycling utilization rate, power generation mode, weight–volume ratio, recovery ratio, and transportation mode. To obtain the optimal scheme of economic cost and emissions reduction, the cost of the beer supply chain is analyzed under the condition of carbon trading. The results show that the proportion of carbon emissions in each link of the beer supply chain is production, packaging, transportation, and storage, which are 59.58%, 22.27%, 17.67%, and 0.5%, respectively. The improvement of the water recycling utilization rate of manufacturing enterprises can reduce the overall carbon emissions of the supply chain, and the effect is obvious. The highest proportion of carbon emissions in the packaging link is the bottle consumption stage (22.43%). Raw materials transportation accounts for the highest proportion of total carbon emissions in transportation (63.73%). The waterway/railway ratio will be increased to 0.6/0.4, and the carbon emissions in the supply chain will be reduced by 5.7%. In the context of carbon trading, when the carbon trading price is higher than 49.16 yuan/ton, enterprises can achieve a win-win situation in reducing emissions and maintaining positive economic growth by the measures given in the paper. This paper constructs the relationship model diagram of green finance, technology finance and supply chain finance, and the conceptual model diagram of the impact mechanism of Green Finance on green innovation performance of manufacturing industry. Using the relevant statistical data indicators of China's manufacturing industry from 2011 to 2018, the structural equation model is used for empirical test. The results show that green finance has a positive impact on the green innovation performance of manufacturing industry. Technology finance has a positive regulating impact on green finance and manufacturing green innovation performance, while supply chain finance has no significant regulating impact. With the rapid development of agriculture, modern agriculture has achieved remarkable results. Agriculture is the foundation of China's national economy, and the Party Central Committee has always insisted on solving the "three rural issues" as the top priority of the work of the whole party. However, China's agricultural foundation is weak, and the problem of unbalanced supply and demand structure of agricultural products still exists in agricultural development. With the development of blockchain, the application basis in the agricultural value chain has been established. At present, the research on the application of agricultural value chain financing is still in progress, but it is still in the initial stage. The integration of agricultural finance blockchain is low, and there are a series of problems. Extending blockchain technology to the financial area of agricultural value chains can help overcome the information barriers to traditional agricultural value chain financing and improve access to information resources for traditional agricultural value chains. The high cost of these value chains and inadequate financial management mechanisms remove bottlenecks in financing agricultural development. In this paper, we study the operation model and revenue distribution model of agricultural value chains using blockchain, analyze examples, and finally identify the basic elements of agricultural value chain financing based on sectoral chain technology. It provides theoretical support for the financing decision and production decision of each member of the agricultural supply chain, and it is hoped that the content and conclusions of the study can provide methodological reference and theoretical guidance for agricultural supply chain enterprises. This paper investigates the effects of zombie firms on Chinese manufacturing capacity utilization rate (CUR hereafter) from the perspectives of both the intra‐industry and supply chain propagation. The results show that zombie firms not only significantly reduce the CUR of healthy firms in the same industry, but also inhibit the increase of CUR through the supply chain propagation. Specifically, if the supply chain propagation effect is not considered, the inhibitory effect of intra‐industry zombie firms on the healthy firms' CUR would be overestimated on one hand, and the overall inhibitory effect of zombie firms on CUR would be underestimated on the other hand. The heterogeneity analysis demonstrates that the inhibitory effect of zombie firms on CUR is more pronounced for private firms, the firms in the industries with higher external financing dependence and the firms in the areas with a poorer institutional environment. In addition, this paper further studies the relationship among zombie firms, resource misallocation and the manufacturing aggregate CUR at the industry level, and finds that both intra‐industry and upstream (downstream) zombie firms have significant inhibitory effects on the growth of manufacturing aggregate CUR. However, there are differences in the ways of influence that, specifically, the upstream (downstream) zombie firms inhibit manufacturing aggregate CUR growth mainly through the within‐firm effect, while the intra‐industry zombie firms are more likely to restrain manufacturing aggregate CUR growth through resource misallocation. Our study contributes to a profound understanding of the causes of overcapacity in a large transition economy and also expands the research perspective of assessing the economic effects of zombie firms. Organization's sustainability performance is influenced by its suppliers' sustainability performance. This relationship makes sustainable supplier development a strategic competitive option for a buyer or focal organization. When considering sustainable supplier development practices (SSDPs) adoption, organizations have to balance and consider their limited financial resources and operational constraints. It becomes necessary to both select the best SSDPs set and investment allocation among the selected SSDP set such that the organization can maximize overall sustainability performance level. In this paper, an integrated formal modeling methodology using DEMATEL, the NK model, and multi-objective linear programming model is used support this objective. The proposed methodology is evaluated in a practical sustainable supply chain field study of an equipment manufacturing company in China. Through case study, we found that the interdependency among SSDPs must be considered in SSDPs selection and investment allocation problem. This paper examines the impact of institutional pressure (IP), top management support (TMS), green supply chain management practices (GSCM), and supply chain competitive advantage (SCCA) on corporate environmental performance (EP). We also analyze the mediation effect of GSCM on the interplay between TMS and EP. Additionally, the paper also provides an analysis of the moderating role of SCCA between IP and EP. To attain the objective of this research, we assembled data from 710 business entities within the Shaanxi province of China utilizing a survey design approach. The structural equation model (SEM) was applied to test and assess the hypothetical outline. The study outcomes empirically show that TMS, GSCM, and SCCA positively and significantly impact EP. Interestingly, our study found an insignificant association between IP and EP. The study's results also demonstrate that IP directly relates to top management support. Moreover, the study's empirical findings reveal that GSCM positively mediates IP and EP. The study findings show that SCCA shapes IP and EP's connection. Accordingly, the practical implications of our study's findings suggest that business managers, investors, and government agencies must know the importance of adopting sustainable practices within the supply chain. Business managers must take action to integrate environmental criteria into supplier selection, evaluate suppliers' EP, and collaborate with eco‐friendly suppliers. Hence, government agencies, stakeholders, and business managers can use this information to shape regulations and policies that encourage businesses to adopt sustainable supply chain practices. Offering incentives such as tax benefits or grants for sustainability initiatives can also promote adoption. The study recommends that a business culture that targets improving EP due to IP and top management support is essential in achieving GSCM practices, thereby promising competitive advantage. Supply chain finance solves the problem of financing difficulties for small- and medium-sized enterprises, reduces the risk of financial services of financial institutions, and brings new profit growth points to logistics enterprises. Therefore, supply chain financing has achieved rapid growth in a short period of time in China. This paper aims to study how to analyze and study the collaborative development of supply chain finance based on system dynamics. This paper puts forward the problem of system operation optimization, which is based on system dynamics, then elaborates on the concepts of SD and SCF, and designs and analyzes a case of a supply chain financial system based on system dynamics. The experimental results show that increasing the "bank input" from 0.1 to 2 can bring considerable economic benefits in the long run. As far as the simulation results are concerned, the promotion effect on the supply chain is the most significant. The output value of the supply chain can be increased from 2,963.04 billion yuan to 4,211.73 billion yuan, an increase of 42.14%. The simulation results showed that the financial industry has a significant positive effect on the factor of supply chain support, which provides evidence support for further guiding practice. In recent years, China's core enterprises have been plagued by high operating costs, difficult bank loans, and other practical problems in the supply chain. As a new financing model emerged in recent years, it has opened up new markets in finance and logistics industry and brought new ideas and vitality to all parties in the supply chain. Since the strengthening of supervision, the operation of the industry has gradually changed to the direction of normalization. The study of online loan interest rate fluctuation is helpful to understand the source and characteristics of online loan risk, which has important reference significance for China's Internet lending market. The measurement of interest rate risk can help to monitor market risk in time and improve financial supervision. This paper takes the online loan interest rate under the background of supervision as the research object, combining theoretical analysis and empirical research to explore the characteristics of interest rate fluctuations and the reasons behind the P2P online loan, and discusses the online loan business model. Based on the influencing factors of interest rate fluctuation, this paper analyzes the main characteristics of network loan interest rate from the aspects of interest rate trend interval distribution, regional distribution, and background distribution. This paper adopts the daily closing price data of domestic R insurance company to establish the daily logarithmic return rate series of stock prices. The results show that (1) GARCH-VAR model can effectively reflect the stock price fluctuation and market risk degree of the insurance company; (2) the company's VAR showed a trend of first rise and then slight decline, with the highest VAR in 2018; and (3) the interpretation of VAR value should be combined with financial indicators. The increase in net profit rate will also lead to the decline of VAR value in the next period. SCF (Supply Chain Finance), as an emerging technology-driven financial optimization approach, has grown quickly worldwide with the development of information technology. China is one noteworthy country influenced by SCF development; its traditional financial market structure dominated by banks is undergoing change. The E-commerce-centered SCF has evolved into the representative capital provider in the new financial "Blue Ocean" market. For capturing competitiveness, Chinese JD (Jingdong) SCF practice backed to JD E-commerce is a typical example involving business model innovations, but with few previous related studies on this aspect. Therefore, to fill the research gap, this paper introduces a hybrid theoretical analysis of the BMC (Business Model Canvas) considering a three-layer strategic innovation structure and financial analysis regarding a modified competitive advantages-gaining model to comprehensively explore the recent innovative development and transformation of JD SCF business based on the perspective of competitive advantages. This study identifies JD SCF's two times of business model innovations that benefit from its sustainable development; verifies that "cost", "differentiation", and "focused strategy" are three means for JD SCF practice gaining competitiveness at different development stages and simultaneously emphasizes that the latter two are influenced by business model innovation. The research on the recycling of discarded drugs has become an important direction of the green supply chain in China. Faced with the great challenge of recycling discarded drugs in China, it is necessary to make clear the behavior choice of each recycling subject. This paper constructs an evolutionary game model among government, drugs recycling companies and consumers, describes the evolutionary game process, and analyzes the influence of the gain of government, drug recycling enterprises and consumers on the evolutionary stable strategy trend. By using Matlab simulation software to simulate the evolution of tripartite behavior, the final result is obtained: The government's choice of a strong regulatory strategy has an important positive role in guiding the entire discarded drug recovery market. Consumer's choice of active participation strategy and enterprise's choice of active participation strategy are most beneficial to the healthy development of the discarded drug recovery market. Due to the increasingly serious water shortage in China, water conservation becomes more and more important. This paper analyzes the amount of water consumption in every link of the goods supply to explore the water conservation feasibility in every link. This paper establishes an EIO-LCA model based on the life cycle assessment method for water consumption from supply chains in various sectors, and decomposes the water footprint of the inter-sector supply chain into six levels and calculates the water consumption at each level. The results show that the total water footprint of China's supply chain increases by 6.5% from 2007 to 2017; industrial sector is the core sector for indirect water footprint consumption. China is an importing country of virtual water, imported intermediate products are the main source of imported virtual water and re-exported products account for an increasing proportion of exported virtual water. Based on the perspective of complex system management of forest biomass power generation (FBPG) supply chain, this paper explores a new way to reduce the operation cost of forest biomass raw materials supply chain and improve the operation efficiency of forest biomass supply chain in China. Firstly, the supply chain model of FBPG is summarized through the survey data, and the existing problems are found. Then, the behavior strategies among farmers, middlemen, and enterprises are analyzed, and the data that cannot be obtained in the model are estimated by using statistical methods. Finally, the complex supply chain system is simulated by computer. Through setting different forestry policies, this paper compares and analyzes the profit of the supply chain and puts forward policy suggestions to promote the development of the FBPG industry in China. In this paper, the actual situation, principles of statistics, and system simulation are effectively combined to make the behavior rules of various stakeholders fit the reality, and the research conclusions are more practical. With the proposal of China's "carbon peak, carbon neutral" strategy, the increasing awareness of low carbon production among consumers, and the government's introduction of carbon trading mechanism and low carbon consumption subsidy policies, enterprises are facing good opportunities for development. However, how the government can reasonably formulate low carbon policies and how enterprises can implement optimal low-carbon production decisions are still key issues in China's low-carbon transition development. In this context, this paper is based on the carbon trading mechanism and carbon consumption subsidies. In this context, based on the carbon trading mechanism, this paper focuses on green production and green consumption, considers the impact of low-carbon consumer preferences and government subsidies on enterprises' low-carbon production decisions, and uses the optimal theory to study the optimal pricing strategy and the optimal carbon reduction strategy. The study shows that the increase in carbon price has a positive effect on the increase in enterprise profit; the increase of carbon emission has a negative effect on the increase of enterprise profit and the high carbon price will intensify this effect. In addition, changing the intensity of government subsidies to consumers will lead to the change of enterprise carbon emission strategy. The study of this paper provides a certain reference for the government to reasonably formulate carbon trading prices and consumer low-carbon subsidies. In addition, considering consumer low-carbon preferences is also conducive to promoting green production practices of enterprises, thus promoting the realization of the carbon neutral strategy. As more attention is given to climate change and sustainable development in China, enterprises start to care about carbon emissions related to their supply chains. One important issue faced by an enterprise is to select a logistics provider who can provide a high-quality service with low carbon levels. To solve this issue, this paper proposes a selection criterion from the perspective of low carbon levels based on previous studies. The selection criterion consists of comprehensive strength, financial status, market competitiveness, development potential and low carbon level. Subsequently, this paper took company S and its four logistics providers as a case study to check the applicability of our proposed selection method and to illustrate how to use it. Sensitivity analysis and comparative analysis are also conducted. Related managerial insights are also proposed based on the evaluation results. To better prevent the potential risks in Internet-based Supply Chain Financing (SCF) products, this paper optimizes and evaluates the Internet-based SCF-oriented Credit Risk Evaluation (CRE) method. Firstly, this paper summarizes 12 risk factors of SCF business, establishes a Risk Assessment Index System (RAIS) with good consistency and stability; then, the principles of Backpropagation (BP) Neural Network (NN) is expounded together with Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) model. Consequently, a CRE model is implemented by the NN tools in MATLAB based on the collection of multiple groups of SCF-oriented risk assessment samples. Subsequently, the assessment samples are trained and tested. Finally, the SCF-oriented CRE model is proposed and verified. The results show that the BP-GA model has presented high prediction consistency with the actual classification. According to the comparison of classification results of SVM, BP model, and BP-GA model, the classification accuracy of test samples of the proposed Internet-based SCF-oriented CRE system using BP-GA model reaches 97.19%; the Type I and Type II error rate of the CRE system based on BP-GA model is 7.2% and 14.21%, respectively. Therefore, a suitable SCF-oriented CRE method is put forward for China's commercial banks along with scientific and feasible suggestions to manage SCF-oriented credit risks more reasonably and effectively. Purpose: This paper aims to draw on the dynamic capabilities approach and aims to empirically investigate the impact of supply chain finance (SCF) on firm performance (e.g. operational risk and operational performance), the critical effect of environmental dynamism (ED) as moderator and supply chain risk (SCR) and a mediator in the relationship between SCF and organizational performance (OP). Design/methodology/approach: This study is based on empirical data collected from a survey of 210 companies and their supply chains in mainland China. Structural equation modeling is used to test the proposed relationships. Findings: The findings show that SCF significantly mitigates the SCR, which subsequently has a significant positive effect on OP (e.g. operational risk and operational performance). The findings also show that when ED is high, the relationship between SCF and SCR is stronger and vice versa. Moreover, SCR mediates the relationship between SCF and OP. The hypothesis regarding the moderating effect of ED on the paths joining SCF and SCR was also supported. SCR has a significant negative effect on OP. However, the hypothesis regarding the effect of ED on SCR was not supported. Research limitations/implications: This study has some limitations. First, this paper conducted the research with Chinese organizations. This may result in low generalizability in other contexts. In addition, this paper used the survey method and cross-sectional data design in this study, which may generate the potential issue of common method bias. However, the findings of this study will help organizations across China and other emerging economies to adopt SCF as a secure financing mechanism to enhance working capital and mitigate risk. In addition, the paper provides some new managerial insights for decision-makers in organizations, while exploring different factors such as SCF, SCR and ED and their effect on the organization. Originality/value: This study has greatly developed a general SCF adoption model that helps to guide empirical research investigating the critical impact of SCF on firm performance. Purpose: Reshoring is one of the supply chain risk management techniques suggested in literature. However, literature suggests that the decision-making involved in reshoring is complex and not fully understood. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, reshoring may represent a way to reduce reliance on global sources and improve resilience of their supply chains. This paper aims to explore if the pandemic is driving reshoring decisions and if the pandemic will actually lead to companies reshoring parts of their supply chain. Design/methodology/approach: This paper critically engages with senior(-most) supply chain managers from three manufacturing companies as they proceed through reshoring decision-making. This enables to develop experiential knowledge about reshoring decision-making processes and their context, as well as insights into the relevance of existing knowledge about reshoring. While not a full multiple case study, the opportunity to engage directly with senior(-most) supply chain managers as they consider reshoring, enables near real-time learning. Not only is reshoring a very timely topic literature has also called for more event-based empirical research. Further to that, it is hoped that this can complement this special issue and support, in a timely manner, the many researchers that are actively studying the impact of the pandemic on supply chains. Findings: Reshoring was being actively considered by all three companies during the research process in Q3 and Q4 of 2020. During this period the pandemic has not yet led to substantial implementation of reshoring, at least by the companies studied in this paper. In response to tariffs on Chinese imports, companies had been diversifying their supply base away from China, but doing so by developing alternative, global sources. Additionally, companies are using alternative risk management techniques, such as supplier collaboration, in the short to medium term. Reshoring decision-making is indeed found to be complex and requires a longer-term time horizon for decision-making and implementation. Logistical challenges and growth in demand do drive a willingness of consumers to pay a premium for locally sourced products. However, when supply normalizes these considerations might lose relevance well before reshoring decision-making and implementation can be completed. Originality/value: This paper studies reshoring in a real-world setting, learning directly from insights from industry as they emerge. This paper develops four extensions to existing knowledge, develop these in frameworks and hope that this will support ongoing consideration in industry and support the many researchers that are active in this domain today.
