Purpose: The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of social isolation due to COVID-19 on the vulnerable geriatric population. Design/methodology/approach: Ten individual interviews of people above 70 years of age were conducted in 2021. The data was collected through interviews and observation. The authors observed the people from the age. Findings: The geriatric population faced physical challenges like poor sleep and digestive health along with neglect of their persisting ailments, which needed attention. Mental issues were also very serious, such as fear of death, anxiety, stress and depression. This paper urges the policymakers to focus on coming up with support systems for the geriatric population and finding long-term solutions to mitigate the repercussions faced by them. Originality/value: This paper attempts to underline the mostly unnoticed physical and psychological issues troubling usually neglected strata of the population as they do not make a part of an income-earning segment. In difficult times, people turn to poetry, reading, and writing for solace and peace. In emotionally intense and traumatic times, people use poetry to process and understand the lived eyepieces. The havoc wreaked by the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the emotional and psychological well-being of individuals all across the world. Poetry has emerged as a savior in these difficult times. A phenomenon, "lockdown poems", came into existence as individuals all across the globe processed and shared their lived experiences of isolation, pain, and suffering through poems. In the present paper, students of a management program process and share their experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the subsequent lockdowns, and their community work experience. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has created public health crisis and economic instability globally. However, the pandemic and the nationwide lockdown have a significant impact on the psychosocial status, emotional state, relationships of individuals, family, and community. Families were facing challenges due to lockdown and will do their best to develop adaptive behavior for attaining self-stability. The present study helps to understand the effect of lockdown on family well-being and the shift of intrafamilial relationships during the lockdown. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional study was done in an urban area of Kakinada from April to June 2020. A convenient sample of 300 families was selected by systematic random method. One parent and one adolescent child from each family, a total of 600 study participants were included under the study. Data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire, entered in Microsoft Excel and analyzed using IBM SPSS. The mean, frequencies, proportion, and Chi-square test were used to analyze data. Results: Adaptability has increased during lockdown by sharing of household work, from 3% before to 91.7%. 97.3% were happy spending time with family members. Communication and satisfaction have increased by a decrease in conflicts, from 19.7% to 7% during the lockdown. Only 3.08% of adults were facing either physical or verbal abuse. Conclusions: During the lockdown period, the family members spent quality time together acquired new skills, and conflicts among them were reduced. COVID-19 induced lockdowns across the globe have made people adjust and adapt themselves through changing patterns of lifestyle. This study aimed to study the impact of forced restrictions on young adults in terms of adaptive measures, well-being, and circadian rhythm during the lockdown. A short survey was conducted during the first lockdown in India among young adults (n=197) in different metropolitan cities of India to collect information on youth's perspectives, practices and experiences during the lockdown through an online platform. The results are based on the responses of 197 young college-going adults to a variety of questions related to stressors during the lockdown, their support system, and their actions towards ensuring their well-being amid the lockdown period. Sense of well-being was perceived as moderate by the majority of the young adults who participated in the study. However, the collected data also indicates that the COVID-19 lockdown has undoubtedly influenced sleep patterns, food behaviour, daily routines, perspectives towards relationships, life situations, and quality of communication in the youth. Some positive impact was also reported based on individual practices for improving health and wellbeing as well as coping with stress and related emotions. A family-based intervention program is needed for the vulnerable groups to ensure holistic well-being and help them work towards their recovery in different domains as in pre-pandemic lives.
