Diagnosing multi-stage diseases typically requires doctors to consider multiple data sources, including clinical symptoms, physical signs, biochemical test results, imaging findings, pathological examination data, and even genetic data. When applying machine learning modeling to predict and diagnose multi-stage diseases, several challenges need to be addressed. Firstly, the model needs to handle multimodal data, as the data used by doctors for diagnosis includes image data, natural language data, and structured data. Secondly, privacy of patients' data needs to be protected, as these data contain the most sensitive and private information. Lastly, considering the practicality of the model, the computational requirements should not be too high. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a privacy-preserving federated deep learning diagnostic method for multi-stage diseases. This method improves the forward and backward propagation processes of deep neural network modeling algorithms and introduces a homomorphic encryption step to design a federated modeling algorithm without the need for an arbiter. It also utilizes dedicated integrated circuits to implement the hardware Paillier algorithm, providing accelerated support for homomorphic encryption in modeling. Finally, this paper designs and conducts experiments to evaluate the proposed solution. The experimental results show that in privacy-preserving federated deep learning diagnostic modeling, the method in this paper achieves the same modeling performance as ordinary modeling without privacy protection, and has higher modeling speed compared to similar algorithms. Although deep learning (DL) algorithms have been proved to be effective in diverse research domains, their application in developing models for tabular data remains limited. Models trained on tabular data demonstrate higher efficacy using traditional machine learning models than DL models, which are largely attributed to the size and structure of tabular datasets and the specific application contexts in which they are utilized. Thus, the primary objective of this paper is to propose a method to use the supremacy of Stacked Bidirectional LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) deep learning algorithms in pattern discovery incorporating tabular data with customized 3D tensor modeling in feeding neural networks. Our findings are empirically validated using six diverse, publicly available datasets each varying in size and learning objectives. This paper proves that the proposed model based on time-sequence DL algorithms, which were generally described as inadequate when dealing with tabular data, yields satisfactory results and competes effectively with other algorithms specifically designed for tabular data. An additional benefit of this approach is its ability to preserve simplicity while ensuring fast model training also with large datasets. Stroke is a high morbidity and mortality disease that poses a serious threat to people's health. Early recognition of the various warning signs of stroke is necessary so that timely clinical intervention can help reduce the severity of stroke. Deep neural networks have powerful feature representation capabilities and can automatically learn discriminant features from large amounts of data. This paper uses a range of physiological characteristic parameters and collaborates with deep neural networks, such as the Wasserstein generative adversarial networks with gradient penalty and regression network, to construct a stroke prediction model. Firstly, to address the problem of imbalance between positive and negative samples in the stroke public data set, we performed positive sample data augmentation and utilized WGAN‐GP to generate stroke data with high fidelity and used it for the training of the prediction network model. Then, the relationship between observable physiological characteristic parameters and the predicted risk of suffering a stroke was modeled as a nonlinear mapping transformation, and a stroke prediction model based on a deep regression network was designed. Finally, the proposed method is compared with commonly used machine learning‐based classification algorithms such as decision tree, random forest, support vector machine, and artificial neural networks. The prediction results of the proposed method are optimal in the comprehensive measurement index F. Wind power generation has aroused widespread concern worldwide. Accurate prediction of wind speed is very important for the safe and economic operation of the power grid. This paper presents a short-term wind speed prediction model which includes data decomposition, deep learning, intelligent algorithm optimization, and error correction modules. First, the robust local mean decomposition (RLMD) is applied to the original wind speed data to reduce the non-stationarity of the data. Then, the salp swarm algorithm (SSA) is used to determine the optimal parameter combination of the bidirectional gated recurrent unit (BiGRU) to ensure prediction quality. In order to eliminate the predictable components of the error further, a correction module based on the improved salp swarm algorithm (ISSA) and deep extreme learning machine (DELM) is constructed. The exploration and exploitation capability of the original SSA is enhanced by introducing a crazy operator and dynamic learning strategy, and the input weights and thresholds in the DELM are optimized by the ISSA to improve the generalization ability of the model. The actual data of wind farms are used to verify the advancement of the proposed model. Compared with other models, the results show that the proposed model has the best prediction performance. Email phishing is a social engineering scheme that uses spoofed emails intended to trick the user into disclosing legitimate business and personal credentials. Many phishing email detection techniques exist based on machine learning, deep learning, and word embedding. In this paper, we propose a new technique for the detection of phishing emails using word embedding (Word2Vec, FastText, and TF-IDF) and deep learning techniques (DNN and BiLSTM network). Our proposed technique makes use of only four header based (From, Returnpath, Subject, Message-ID) features of the emails for the email classification. We applied several word embeddings for the evaluation of our models. From the experimental evaluation, we observed that the DNN model with FastText-SkipGram achieved an accuracy of 99.52% and BiLSTM model with FastText-SkipGram achieved an accuracy of 99.42%. A comprehensive systematic study was carried out in order to identify various deep learning methods developed and used for predicting student academic performance. Predicting academic performance allows for the implementation of various preventive and supportive measures earlier in order to improve academic performance and reduce failure and dropout rates. Widely used for academic performance prediction, backpropagation algorithms have been trained and tested with various datasets, especially those related to learning management systems (LMS) and massive open online courses (MOOC). In this paper, we have designed an artificial neural network architecture to produce metric field of planar BTZ and quintessence black holes applying a data-driven approach andleveraging holography principle (according to AdS/DL (Anti de Sitter/Deep Learning) correspondence given by [1]). Data has been collected by choosing minimally coupled massive scalar field with quantum fluctuations and we try to process two emergent and ground-truth metrics versus the holographic parameter which plays the role of depth of the neural network. Loss or error function which shows rate of deviation of these two metrics in presence of penalty regularization term reaches to its minimum value when values of the learning rate approach to the observed steepest gradient point. Values of the regularization or penalty term of the quantum scalar field has critical role to matching this two mentioned metric. With the increasing use of the Internet and its coverage of all areas of life and the increasing amount of sensitive and confidential information on the Internet, the number of malicious attacks on that information has increased with the aim of destroying, changing, or misusing it. This paper investigates the stochastic optimization problem focusing on developing scalable parallel algorithms for deep learning tasks. Our solution involves a reformation of the objective function for stochastic optimization in neural network models, along with a novel parallel computing strategy, coined the weighted aggregating stochastic gradient descent (WASGD). Following a theoretical analysis on the characteristics of the new objective function, WASGD introduces a decentralized weighted aggregating scheme based on the performance of local workers. Without any center variable, the new method automatically gauges the importance of local workers and accepts them by their contributions. Furthermore, we have developed an enhanced version of the method, WASGD+, by (1) implementing a designed sample order and (2) upgrading the weight evaluation function. To validate the new method, we benchmark our pipeline against several popular algorithms including the state-of-the-art deep neural network classifier training techniques (e.g., elastic averaging SGD). Comprehensive validation studies have been conducted on four classic datasets: CIFAR-100, CIFAR-10, Fashion-MNIST, and MNIST. Subsequent results have firmly validated the superiority of the WASGD scheme in accelerating the training of deep architecture. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the current state of AI-based techniques used in combination with non-invasive diagnostic imaging modalities including reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and dermoscopy. We also aimed to determine whether the application of AI-based techniques can lead to improved diagnostic accuracy of melanoma. Methods: A systematic search was conducted via the Medline/PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase databases for eligible publications between 2018 and 2022. Screening methods adhered to the 2020 version of the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. Included studies utilized AI-based algorithms for melanoma detection and directly addressed the review objectives. Results: We retrieved 40 papers amongst the three databases. All studies directly comparing the performance of AI-based techniques with dermatologists reported the superior or equivalent performance of AI-based techniques in improving the detection of melanoma. In studies directly comparing algorithm performance on dermoscopy images to dermatologists, AI-based algorithms achieved a higher ROC (>80%) in the detection of melanoma. In these comparative studies using dermoscopic images, the mean algorithm sensitivity was 83.01% and the mean algorithm specificity was 85.58%. Studies evaluating machine learning in conjunction with OCT boasted accuracy of 95%, while studies evaluating RCM reported a mean accuracy rate of 82.72%. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate the robust potential of AI-based techniques to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes through the early identification of melanoma. Further studies are needed to assess the generalizability of these AI-based techniques across different populations and skin types, improve standardization in image processing, and further compare the performance of AI-based techniques with board-certified dermatologists to evaluate clinical applicability. Interference signals recognition plays an important role in anti-jamming communication. With the development of deep learning, many supervised interference signals recognition algorithms based on deep learning have emerged recently and show better performance than traditional recognition algorithms. However, there is no unsupervised interference signals recognition algorithm at present. In this paper, an unsupervised interference signals recognition method called double phases and double dimensions contrastive clustering (DDCC) is proposed. Specifically, in the first phase, four data augmentation strategies for interference signals are used in data-augmentation-based (DA-based) contrastive learning. In the second phase, the original dataset's k-nearest neighbor set (KNNset) is designed in double dimensions contrastive learning. In addition, a dynamic entropy parameter strategy is proposed. The simulation experiments of 9 types of interference signals show that random cropping is the best one of the four data augmentation strategies; the feature dimensional contrastive learning in the second phase can improve the clustering purity; the dynamic entropy parameter strategy can improve the stability of DDCC effectively. The unsupervised interference signals recognition results of DDCC and five other deep clustering algorithms show that the clustering performance of DDCC is superior to other algorithms. In particular, the clustering purity of our method is above 92%, SCAN's is 81%, and the other three methods' are below 71% when jammingnoise-ratio (JNR) is -5 dB. As a neurodevelopmental disorder, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) severely affects the living conditions of patients and their families. Early diagnosis of ASD can enable the disease to be effectively intervened in the early stage of development. In this paper, we present an ASD classification network defined as CNNG by combining of convolutional neural network (CNN) and gate recurrent unit (GRU). First, CNNG extracts the 3D spatial features of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data by using the convolutional layer of the 3D CNN. Second, CNNG extracts the temporal features by using the GRU and finally classifies them by using the Sigmoid function. The performance of CNNG was validated on the international public data--autism brain imaging data exchange (ABIDE) dataset. In deep learning, the accuracy and generalization ability of the model largely depend on the optimization of the loss function. Up to now, dozens of optimization methods have been used in the deep learning models. Among them, stochastic gradient descent (SGD) is a popular and widely used method, and most of the other up-to-date optimization methods are variants or improvements of the original SGD. Among all the variations and improvements, the adaptive moment estimation (Adam) is one of the classics. However, Adam has also been pointed out to have non-convergence or error-convergence. Combining with the improvement points of the existing algorithms, this paper proposes an improved algorithm based on Adam, called NewAdam. NewAdam is modified from Adam in both search direction and learning rate. Landslides, widespread and highly dangerous geological disasters, pose significant risks to humankind and the ecological environment. Consequently, predicting landslides is vital for disaster prevention and mitigation strategies. At present, the predominant methods for predicting landslide susceptibility are evolving from conventional machine learning techniques to deep learning approaches. Deep learning (DL) is a subdivision of machine learning (ML) that employs numerous algorithms, each of which provides various explanations of the data it consumes; mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) are growing in prominence. For reasons including node mobility, due to MANET's potential to provide small-cost solutions for real-world contact challenges, decentralized management, and restricted bandwidth, MANETs are more vulnerable to security threats. When protecting MANETs from attack, encryption and authentication schemes have their limits. However, deep learning (DL) approaches in intrusion detection systems (IDS) can adapt to the changing environment of MANETs and allow a system to make intrusion decisions while learning about its mobility in the environment. IDSs are a secondary defiance system for mobile ad-hoc networks vs. attacks since they monitor network traffic and report anything unusual. Recently, many scientists have employed deep neural networks (DNNs) to address intrusion detection concerns. This paper used MANET to recognize complex patterns by focusing on security standards through efficiency determination and identifying malicious nodes, and mitigating network attacks using the three algorithms presented Cascading Back Propagation Neural Network (CBPNN), Feedforward-Neural-Network (FNN), and Cascading-Back-Propagation-Neural- Network (CBPNN) (FFNN). This study explores the application of Deep Learning techniques in assisting tumor grading using Magnetic Resonance Images (MRIs). By analyzing a glioma database sourced from multiple public datasets and comparing different settings, the aim of this study is to develop a robust and reliable grading system. The study demonstrates that by focusing on the tumor region of interest and augmenting the available data, there is a significant improvement in both the accuracy and confidence of tumor grade classifications. While successful in differentiating low-grade gliomas from high-grade gliomas, the accurate classification of grades 2, 3, and 4 remains challenging. The research findings have significant implications for advancing the development of a non-invasive, robust, and trustworthy data-driven system to support clinicians in the diagnosis and therapy planning of glioma patients. Glioma is the most common type of tumor in humans originating in the brain. According to the World Health Organization, gliomas can be graded on a four-stage scale, ranging from the most benign to the most malignant. The grading of these tumors from image information is a far from trivial task for radiologists and one in which they could be assisted by machine-learning-based decision support. However, the machine learning analytical pipeline is also fraught with perils stemming from different sources, such as inadvertent data leakage, adequacy of 2D image sampling, or classifier assessment biases. In this paper, we analyze a glioma database sourced from multiple datasets using a simple classifier, aiming to obtain a reliable tumor grading and, on the way, we provide a few guidelines to ensure such reliability. Our results reveal that by focusing on the tumor region of interest and using data augmentation techniques we significantly enhanced the accuracy and confidence in tumor classifications. Evaluation on an independent test set resulted in an AUC-ROC of 0.932 in the discrimination of low-grade gliomas from high-grade gliomas, and an AUC-ROC of 0.893 in the classification of grades 2, 3, and 4. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most generally known neurodegenerative disorder, leading to a steady deterioration in cognitive ability. Deep learning models have shown outstanding performance in the diagnosis of AD, and these models do not need any handcrafted feature extraction over conventional machine learning algorithms. Autonomous driving approaches today are mainly based on perception-planning-action modular pipelines and the End2End paradigm respectively. The End2End paradigm is a strategy that directly maps raw sensor data to vehicle control actions. In comparison to End2End algorithm, it is found that the trajectory learning algorithm performs better in autonomous driving. As for trajectory learning algorithm, the CNN_Raw-RNN network structure is established, which is verified to be more effective than the original CNN_LSTM network structure. Besides, we propose an autonomous driving architecture of a pilot and copilot combination. The pilot is responsible for trajectory prediction via imitation learning with labeled driving trajectories, while the copilot is a safety module that is employed to verify the effectiveness of the vehicle trajectory by the results of the semantic segmentation auxiliary task. Background: Auditory–perceptual assessment of voice is a subjective procedure. Artificial intelligence with deep learning (DL) may improve the consistency and accessibility of this task. It is unclear how a DL model performs on different acoustic features. Aims: To develop a generalizable DL framework for identifying dysphonia using a multidimensional acoustic feature. Methods & Procedures: Recordings of sustained phonations of /a/ and /i/ were retrospectively collected from a clinical database. Subjects contained 238 dysphonic and 223 vocally healthy speakers of Chinese Mandarin. All audio clips were split into multiple 1.5‐s segments and normalized to the same loudness level. Mel frequency cepstral coefficients and mel‐spectrogram were extracted from these standardized segments. Each set of features was used in a convolutional neural network (CNN) to perform a binary classification task. The best feature was obtained through a five‐fold cross‐validation on a random selection of 80% data. The resultant DL framework was tested on the remaining 20% data and a public German voice database. The performance of the DL framework was compared with those of two baseline machine‐learning models. Outcomes & Results: The mel‐spectrogram yielded the best model performance, with a mean area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.972 and an accuracy of 92% in classifying audio segments. The resultant DL framework significantly outperformed both baseline models in detecting dysphonic subjects on both test sets. The best outcomes were achieved when classifications were made based on all segments of both vowels, with 95% accuracy, 92% recall, 98% precision and 98% specificity on the Chinese test set, and 92%, 95%, 90% and 89%, respectively, on the German set. Conclusions & Implications: This study demonstrates the feasibility of DL for automatic detection of dysphonia. The mel‐spectrogram is a preferred acoustic feature for the task. This framework may be used for vocal health screening and facilitate automatic perceptual evaluation of voice in the era of big data. Medical image semantic segmentation is essential in computer-aided diagnosis systems. It can separate tissues and lesions in the image and provide valuable information to radiologists and doctors. The breast ultrasound (BUS) images have advantages: no radiation, low cost, portable, etc. However, there are two unfavorable characteristics: (1) the dataset size is often small due to the difficulty in obtaining the ground truths, and (2) BUS images are usually in poor quality. Trustworthy BUS image segmentation is urgent in breast cancer computer-aided diagnosis systems, especially for fully understanding the BUS images and segmenting the breast anatomy, which supports breast cancer risk assessment. The main challenge for this task is uncertainty in both pixels and channels of the BUS images. In this paper, we propose a Spatial and Channel-wise Fuzzy Uncertainty Reduction Network (SCFURNet) for BUS image semantic segmentation. The proposed architecture can reduce the uncertainty in the original segmentation frameworks. We apply the proposed method to four datasets: (1) a five-category BUS image dataset with 325 images, and (2) three BUS image datasets with only tumor category (1830 images in total). The proposed approach compares state-of-the-art methods such as U-Net with VGG-16, ResNet-50/ResNet-101, Deeplab, FCN-8s, PSPNet, U-Net with information extension, attention U-Net, and U-Net with the self-attention mechanism. It achieves 2.03%, 1.84%, and 2.88% improvements in the Jaccard index on three public BUS datasets, and 6.72% improvement in the tumor category and 4.32% improvement in the overall performance on the five-category dataset compared with that of the original U-shape network with ResNet-101 since it can handle the uncertainty effectively and efficiently. Vehicle fault detection and diagnosis (VFDD) along with predictive maintenance (PdM) are indispensable for early diagnosis in order to prevent severe accidents due to mechanical malfunction in urban environments. This paper proposes an early voiceprint driving fault identification system using machine learning algorithms for classification. Previous studies have examined driving fault identification, but less attention has focused on using voiceprint features to locate corresponding faults. This research uses 43 different common vehicle mechanical malfunction condition voiceprint signals to construct the dataset. These datasets were filtered by linear predictive coefficient (LPC) and wavelet transform(WT). After the original voiceprint fault sounds were filtered and obtained the main fault characteristics, the deep neural network (DNN), convolutional neural network (CNN), and long short-term memory (LSTM) architectures are used for identification. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the CNN algorithm is the best for the LPC dataset. In addition, for the wavelet dataset, DNN has the best performance in terms of identification performance and training time. After cross-comparison of experimental results, the wavelet algorithm combined with DNN can improve the identification accuracy by up to 16.57% compared with other deep learning algorithms and reduce the model training time by up to 21.5% compared with other algorithms. Realizing the cross-comparison of recognition results through various machine learning methods, it is possible for the vehicle to proactively remind the driver of the real-time potential hazard of vehicle machinery failure. Deficits in social verbal communication in individuals with Social Communication Disorder (SCD) is of concern and SCD in the human community is prevalent in large population throughout the globe. Deficits in verbal social communication are prevalent in a large population. This paper aimed to propose internet connected multi-system architecture which is capable to support verbal communication in a social environment for individuals with social communication deficits. Implementation methodology was included with corpus collection for specific communication, deep learning based machine training for intelligent communication, and implementation of the trained algorithm on internet connected electronic multiple social communication devices. The implemented system is smart enough to initiate and maintain two types of communication; the first type includes communication between multiple individuals on the remote location and the second type includes communication with the individual present in the physical listening range. The system was investigated in terms of its algorithmic parameters and found 97% to 100% in terms of training and testing accuracy with negligible mean squared error. Vocal-Friend analysed results based on audio-bot simulative conditions provide more than 91% accuracy, interaction rate and fallback rate. On the basis of the satisfaction analysis, above average results were noticed. In terms of technical implementations and satisfaction analysis, results found acceptable with above average score. Proposed framework is easy to use by caregivers with even having little knowledge. Support individual with deficit to learn social verbal communication skill to survive in society. Natural Language Understanding and Speech Understanding systems are now a global trend, and with the advancement of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, have drawn attention from both the academic and business communities. Domain prediction, intent detection and entity extraction or slot fillings are the most important parts for such intelligent systems. Various traditional machine learning algorithms such as Bayesian algorithm, Support Vector Machine, and Artificial Neural Network, along with recent Deep Neural Network techniques, are used to predict domain, intent, and entity. Most language understanding systems process user input in a sequential order: domain is first predicted, then intent and slots are filled according to the semantic frames of the predicted domain. This pipeline approach, however, has many disadvantages including downstream error; i.e., if the system fails to predict the domain, then the system also fails to predict intent and slot. The main purpose of this paper is to mitigate the risk of downstream error propagation in traditional pipelined models and improve the predictive performance of domain, intent, and slot- all of which are critical steps for speech understanding and dialog systems- with a deep learning-based single joint model trained with an adversarial approach and long shortterm memory (LSTM) algorithm. Machine learning methods, especially deep learning models, have achieved impressive performance in various natural language processing tasks including sentiment analysis. However, deep learning models are more demanding for training data. Data augmentation techniques are widely used to generate new instances based on modifications to existing data or relying on external knowledge bases to address annotated data scarcity, which hinders the full potential of machine learning techniques. This paper presents our work using part‐of‐speech (POS) focused lexical substitution for data augmentation (PLSDA) to enhance the performance of machine learning algorithms in sentiment analysis. We exploit POS information to identify words to be replaced and investigate different augmentation strategies to find semantically related substitutions when generating new instances. The choice of POS tags as well as a variety of strategies such as semantic‐based substitution methods and sampling methods are discussed in detail. Performance evaluation focuses on the comparison between PLSDA and two previous lexical substitution‐based data augmentation methods, one of which is thesaurus‐based, and the other is lexicon manipulation based. Our approach is tested on five English sentiment analysis benchmarks: SST‐2, MR, IMDB, Twitter, and AirRecord. Hyperparameters such as the candidate similarity threshold and number of newly generated instances are optimized. Results show that six classifiers (SVM, LSTM, BiLSTM‐AT, bidirectional encoder representations from transformers [BERT], XLNet, and RoBERTa) trained with PLSDA achieve accuracy improvement of more than 0.6% comparing to two previous lexical substitution methods averaged on five benchmarks. Introducing POS constraint and well‐designed augmentation strategies can improve the reliability of lexical data augmentation methods. In many machine learning applications and algorithms, the algorithm performance and accuracy are highly dependent on the metric used to measure the distance between different samples. Therefore, learning a distance metric specific to the data can improve these algorithms' performance. This paper proposes an unrestricted deep metric learning framework based on neural networks' interaction for learning metrics in latent space. The proposed method is inspired by generative neural nets (GANs), in which two neural nets are working together to learn true data distribution. In our method, one network plays the role of a supervisor for another network, a feature learning auto-encoder. Its task is to learn transformation to latent space in which data have more meaningful distance and separability. i.e., the supervisor gets the output of the auto-encoder and sends feedback to modify its weights. They interact with each other interleavingly. Several experiments were conducted on four datasets, such as MNIST, GISETTE, Winnipeg Cropland Classification (WCC), and swarm behavior, from different application domains, to evaluate the proposed method's performance. The results show that we can force auto-encoder to learn label information to project data into a latent space with better separability by using our approach. In addition to better class discrimination, the proposed method is far faster than normal auto-encoders during feature learning and has much less training time in the classification phase. BACKGROUND: The field of toxicology has witnessed substantial advancements in recent years, particularly with the adoption of new approach methodologies (NAMs) to understand and predict chemical toxicity. Class-based methods such as clustering and classification are key to NAMs development and application, aiding the understanding of hazard and risk concerns associated with groups of chemicals without additional laboratory work. Advances in computational chemistry, data generation and availability, and machine learning algorithms represent important opportunities for continued improvement of these techniques to optimize their utility for specific regulatory and research purposes. However, due to their intricacy, deep understanding and careful selection are imperative to align the adequate methods with their intended applications. OBJECTIVES: This commentary aims to deepen the understanding of class-based approaches by elucidating the pivotal role of chemical similarity (structural and biological) in clustering and classification approaches (CCAs). It addresses the dichotomy between general end point–agnostic similarity, often entailing unsupervised analysis, and end point–specific similarity necessitating supervised learning. The goal is to highlight the nuances of these approaches, their applications, and common misuses. DISCUSSION: Understanding similarity is pivotal in toxicological research involving CCAs. The effectiveness of these approaches depends on the right definition and measure of similarity, which varies based on context and objectives of the study. This choice is influenced by how chemical structures are represented and the respective labels indicating biological activity, if applicable. The distinction between unsupervised clustering and supervised classification methods is vital, requiring the use of end point–agnostic vs. end point–specific similarity definition. Separate use or combination of these methods requires careful consideration to prevent bias and ensure relevance for the goal of the study. Unsupervised methods use end point– agnostic similarity measures to uncover general structural patterns and relationships, aiding hypothesis generation and facilitating exploration of datasets without the need for predefined labels or explicit guidance. With the rapid development of deep learning algorithms, it is gradually applied in UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) driving, visual recognition, target tracking, behavior recognition, and other fields. In the field of sports, many scientists put forward the research of target tracking and recognition technology based on deep learning algorithms for athletes' trajectory and behavior capture. Based on the target tracking algorithm, a regional proposal network RPN algorithm combined with the twin regional proposal network Siamese algorithm is proposed to study the tracking and recognition technology of athletes' behavior. Then, the adaptive updating network is used to track the behavior target of athletes, and the simulation model of behavior recognition is established. This algorithm is different from the traditional twin network algorithm. It can accurately take the athlete's behavior as the target candidate box in model training and reduce the interference of environment and other factors on model recognition. The results show that the Siamese-RPN algorithm can reduce the interference from the background and environment when tracking the athletes' target behavior trajectory. This algorithm can improve the training behavior recognition model, ignore the background interference elements of the behavior image, and improve the accuracy and overall performance of the model. Objectives: Dental radiographs, particularly bitewing radiographs, are widely used in dental diagnosis and treatment Dental image segmentation is difficult for various reasons, such as intricate structures, low contrast, noise, roughness, and unclear borders, resulting in poor image quality. Recent developments in deep learning models have improved performance in analyzing dental images. In this research, our primary objective is to determine the most effective segmentation technique for bitewing radiographs based on different metrics: accuracy, training time, and the number of training parameters as a reflection of architectural cost. Methods: In this research, we employ several deep learning models, namely Resnet-18, Resnet-50, Xception, Inception Resnet v2, and Mobilenetv2, to segment bitewing radiographs. The process begins by importing the radiographs into MATLAB®(MathWorks Inc), where the images are first improved, then segmented using the graph cut method based on regions to produce a binary mask that distinguishes the background from the original X-ray. Results: The deep learning models were trained on 298 and 99 radiograph training and validation sets and were evaluated using 99 images from the testing set. We also compare the segmentation model using several criteria, including accuracy, speed, and size, to determine which network is superior. Furthermore, we compare our findings with prior research to provide a comprehensive understanding of the advancements made in dental image segmentation. The accurate segmentation achieved was 93.67% and 94.42% by the Resnet-18 and Resnet-50 models, respectively. Conclusion: This research advances dental image analysis and facilitates more accurate diagnoses and treatment planning by determining the best segmentation technique. Clinical narratives commonly use acronyms without explicitly defining their long forms. This makes it difficult to automatically interpret their sense as acronyms tend to be highly ambiguous. Supervised learning approaches to their disambiguation in the clinical domain are hindered by issues associated with patient privacy and manual annotation, which limit the size and diversity of training data. In this study, we demonstrate how scientific abstracts can be utilised to overcome these issues by creating a large automatically annotated dataset of artificially simulated global acronyms. A neural network trained on such a dataset achieved the F1-score of 95% on disambiguation of acronym mentions in scientific abstracts. This network was integrated with multiword term recognition to extract a sense inventory of acronyms from a corpus of clinical narratives on the fly. Acronym sense extraction achieved the F1-score of 74% on a corpus of radiology reports. Objective: This research addresses the challenges of maintaining proper yoga postures, an issue that has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent shift to virtual platforms for yoga instruction. This research aims to develop a mechanism for detecting correct yoga poses and providing real-time feedback through the application of computer vision and machine learning (ML) techniques. Methods and Procedures: This study utilized computer vision-based pose estimation methods to extract features and calculate yoga pose angles. A variety of models, including extremely randomized trees, logistic regression, random forest, gradient boosting, extreme gradient boosting, and deep neural networks, were trained and tested to classify yoga poses. Our study employed the Yoga-82 dataset, consisting of many yoga pose images downloaded from the web. Results: The results of this study show that the extremely randomized trees model outperformed the other models, achieving the highest prediction accuracy of 91% on the test dataset and 92% in a fivefold cross-validation experiment. Other models like random forest, gradient boosting, extreme gradient boosting, and deep neural networks achieved accuracies of 90%, 89%, 90%, and 85%, respectively, while logistic regression underperformed, having the lowest accuracy. Detecting changes in soil micro-relief in farmland helps to understand degradation processes like sheet erosion. Using the high-resolution technique of terrestrial laser scanning (TLS), we generated point clouds of three 2 × 3 m plots on a weekly basis from May to mid-June in 2022 on cultivated farmland in Germany. Three well-known applications for eliminating vegetation points in the generated point cloud were tested: Cloth Simulation Filter (CSF) as a filtering method, three variants of CANUPO as a machine learning method, and ArcGIS PointCNN as a deep learning method, a sub-category of machine learning using deep neural networks. We assessed the methods with hard criteria such as F1 score, balanced accuracy, height differences, and their standard deviations to the reference surface, resulting in data gaps and robustness, and with soft criteria such as time-saving capacity, accessibility, and user knowledge. All algorithms showed a low performance at the initial measurement epoch, increasing with later epochs. While most of the results demonstrate a better performance of ArcGIS PointCNN, this algorithm revealed an exceptionally low performance in plot 1, which is describable by the generalization gap. Machine learning (ML) models, especially deep neural networks, are increasingly being used for the analysis of medical images and as a supporting tool for clinical decision-making. In this study, we propose an artificial intelligence system to facilitate dental decision-making for the removal of mandibular third molars (M3M) based on 2-dimensional orthopantograms and the risk assessment of such a procedure. A total of 4,516 panoramic radiographic images collected at the Center of Dental Medicine at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, were used for training the ML model. After image preparation and preprocessing, a spatially dependent U-Net was employed to detect and retrieve the region of the M3M and inferior alveolar nerve (IAN). Image patches identified to contain a M3M were automatically processed by a deep neural network for the classification of M3M superimposition over the IAN (task 1) and M3M root development (task 2). A control evaluation set of 120 images, collected from a different data source than the training data and labeled by 5 dental practitioners, was leveraged to reliably evaluate model performance. By 10-fold cross-validation, we achieved accuracy values of 0.94 and 0.93 for the M3M–IAN superimposition task and the M3M root development task, respectively, and accuracies of 0.9 and 0.87 when evaluated on the control data set, using a ResNet-101 trained in a semisupervised fashion. Matthew's correlation coefficient values of 0.82 and 0.75 for task 1 and task 2, evaluated on the control data set, indicate robust generalization of our model. Depending on the different label combinations of task 1 and task 2, we propose a diagnostic table that suggests whether additional imaging via 3-dimensional cone beam tomography is advisable. Ultimately, computer-aided decision-making tools benefit clinical practice by enabling efficient and risk-reduced decision-making and by supporting less experienced practitioners before the surgical removal of the M3M. Neuromorphic Computing, a concept pioneered in the late 1980s, is receiving a lot of attention lately due to its promise of reducing the computational energy, latency, as well as learning complexity in artificial neural networks. Taking inspiration from neuroscience, this interdisciplinary field performs a multi-stack optimization across devices, circuits, and algorithms by providing an end-to-end approach to achieving brain-like efficiency in machine intelligence. On one side, neuromorphic computing introduces a new algorithmic paradigm, known as Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs), which is a significant shift from standard deep learning and transmits information as spikes (“1” or “0”) rather than analog values. This has opened up novel algorithmic research directions to formulate methods to represent data in spike-trains, develop neuron models that can process information over time, design learning algorithms for event-driven dynamical systems, and engineer network architectures amenable to sparse, asynchronous, event-driven computing to achieve lower power consumption. On the other side, a parallel research thrust focuses on development of efficient computing platforms for new algorithms. Standard accelerators that are amenable to deep learning workloads are not particularly suitable to handle processing across multiple timesteps efficiently. To that effect, researchers have designed neuromorphic hardware that rely on event-driven sparse computations as well as efficient matrix operations. While most large-scale neuromorphic systems have been explored based on CMOS technology, recently, Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) technologies show promise toward implementing bio-mimetic functionalities on single devices. In this article, we outline several strides that neuromorphic computing based on spiking neural networks (SNNs) has taken over the recent past, and we present our outlook on the challenges that this field needs to overcome to make the bio-plausibility route a successful one. Digital pathology is vital for the correct diagnosis of kidney before transplantation or kidney disease identification. One of the key challenges in kidney diagnosis is glomerulus detection in kidney tissue segments. In this study, we propose a deep learning–based method for glomerulus detection from digitized kidney slide segments. The proposed method applies models based on convolutional neural networks to detect image segments containing the glomerulus region. We employ various networks such as ResNets, UNet, LinkNet, and EfficientNet to train the models. To solve these problems, we build specific datasets, including SDOD, Mini6K, Mini2022 and Mini6KClean. The experimental results of several typical algorithms (e.g. SSD, YOLOv5, Faster RCNN and Deformable DETR) on the datasets show that data labeling errors (such as missing labels, category label errors, inappropriate labels) are another factor that affects the detection performance of small objects. The purpose of this study is to explore how machine learning technologies can improve healthcare operations management. A machine learning-based model to solve a specific medical problem is developed to achieve this research purpose. Specifically, this study presents an AI solution for malaria infection diagnosis by applying the CNN (convolutional neural network) algorithm. Based on malaria microscopy image data from the NIH National Library of Medicine, a total of 24,958 images were used for deep learning training, and 2600 images were selected for final testing of the proposed diagnostic architecture. The empirical results indicate that the CNN diagnostic model correctly classified most malaria-infected and non-infected cases with minimal misclassification, with performance metrics of precision (0.97), recall (0.99), and f1-score (0.98) for uninfected cells, and precision (0.99), recall (0.97), and f1-score (0.98) for parasite cells. The CNN diagnostic solution rapidly processed a large number of cases with a high reliable accuracy of 97.81%. The performance of this CNN model was further validated through the k-fold cross-validation test. These results suggest the advantage of machine learning-based diagnostic methods over conventional manual diagnostic methods in improving healthcare operational capabilities in terms of diagnostic quality, processing costs, lead time, and productivity. In addition, a machine learning diagnosis system is more likely to enhance the financial profitability of healthcare operations by reducing the risk of unnecessary medical disputes related to diagnostic errors. Rising incidence and mortality of cancer have led to an incremental amount of research in the field. To learn from preexisting data, it has become important to capture maximum information related to disease type, stage, treatment, and outcomes. Medical imaging reports are rich in this kind of information but are only present as free text. The extraction of information from such unstructured text reports is labor-intensive. The use of Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools to extract information from radiology reports can make it less time-consuming as well as more effective. In this study, we have developed and compared different models for the classification of lung carcinoma reports using clinical concepts. This study was approved by the institutional ethics committee as a retrospective study with a waiver of informed consent. A clinical concept-based classification pipeline for lung carcinoma radiology reports was developed using rule-based as well as machine learning models and compared. The machine learning models used were XGBoost and two more deep learning model architectures with bidirectional long short-term neural networks. A corpus consisting of 1700 radiology reports including computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) reports were used for development and testing. Five hundred one radiology reports from MIMIC-III Clinical Database version 1.4 was used for external validation. The pipeline achieved an overall F1 score of 0.94 on the internal set and 0.74 on external validation with the rule-based algorithm using expert input giving the best performance. Among the machine learning models, the Bi-LSTM_dropout model performed better than the ML model using XGBoost and the Bi-LSTM_simple model on internal set, whereas on external validation, the Bi-LSTM_simple model performed relatively better than other 2. For the last 40 years, actigraphy or wearable accelerometry has provided an objective, low-burden and ecologically valid approach to assess real-world sleep and circadian patterns, contributing valuable data to epidemiological and clinical insights on sleep and sleep disorders. The proper use of wearable technology in sleep research requires validated algorithms that can derive sleep outcomes from the sensor data. Since the publication of the first automated scoring algorithm by Webster in 1982, a variety of sleep algorithms have been developed and contributed to sleep research, including many recent ones that leverage machine learning and / or deep learning approaches. However, it remains unclear how these algorithms compare to each other on the same data set and if these modern data science approaches improve the analytical validity of sleep outcomes based on wrist-worn acceleration data. This work provides a systematic evaluation across 8 state-of-the-art sleep algorithms on a common sleep data set with polysomnography (PSG) as ground truth. Despite the inclusion of recently published complex algorithms, simple regression-based and heuristic algorithms demonstrated slightly superior performance in sleep-wake classification and sleep outcome estimation. The performance of complex machine learning and deep learning models seem to suffer from poor generalization. Objective: To evaluate the existing evidence of a machine learning-based classification system that stratifies patients with stroke. Methods: The authors carried out a systematic review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) recommendations for a review article. PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science, and CINAHL Plus Full Text were searched from January 2015 to February 2021. Results: There are twelve studies included in this systematic review. Fifteen algorithms were used in the included studies. The most common forms of machine learning (ML) used to classify stroke patients were the support vector machine (SVM) (n = 8 studies), followed by random forest (RF) (n = 7 studies), decision tree (DT) (n = 4 studies), gradient boosting (GB) (n = 4 studies), neural networks (NNs) (n = 3 studies), deep learning (n = 2 studies), and k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) (n = 2 studies), respectively. Forty-four features of inputs were used in the included studies, and age and gender are the most common features in the ML model. Discussion: There is no single algorithm that performed better or worse than all others at classifying patients with stroke, in part because different input data require different algorithms to achieve optimal outcomes.
