A significant majority of the population in India makes their living through agriculture. Different illnesses that develop due to changing weather patterns and are caused by pathogenic organisms impact the yields of diverse plant species. The present article analyzed some of the existing techniques in terms of data sources, pre-processing techniques, feature extraction techniques, data augmentation techniques, models utilized for detecting and classifying diseases that affect the plant, how the quality of images was enhanced, how overfitting of the model was reduced, and accuracy. The research papers for this study were selected using various keywords from peer-reviewed publications from various databases published between 2010 and 2022. A total of 182 papers were identified and reviewed for their direct relevance to plant disease detection and classification, of which 75 papers were selected for this review after exclusion based on the title, abstract, conclusion, and full text. Researchers will find this work to be a useful resource in recognizing the potential of various existing techniques through data-driven approaches while identifying plant diseases by enhancing system performance and accuracy. Automatic extraction of building contours from high-resolution images is of great significance in the fields of urban planning, demographics, and disaster assessment. Network models based on convolutional neural network (CNN) and transformer technology have been widely used for semantic segmentation of buildings from high resolution remote sensing images (HRSI). However, the fixed geometric structure and the local receptive field of the convolutional kernel are not good at global feature extraction, and the transformer technique with self-attention mechanism introduces computational redundancies and extracts local feature details poorly in the process of modeling the global contextual information. In this paper, a dual-branch fused reconstructive transformer network, DFRTNet, is proposed for efficient and accurate building extraction. In the encoder, the traditional transformer is reconfigured by designing the local and global feature extraction module (LGFE); the branch of global feature extraction (GFE) performs dynamic range attention (DRA) based on the idea of top-k attention for extracting global features; furthermore, the branch of local feature extraction (LFE) is used to obtain fine-grained features. The multilayer perceptron (MLP) is employed to efficiently fuse the local and global features. In the decoder, a simple channel attention module (CAM) is used in the up-sampling part to enhance channel dimension features. With the growing diversity of cyberattacks in recent years, anomaly-based intrusion detection systems that can detect unknown attacks have attracted significant attention. Furthermore, a wide range of studies on anomaly detection using machine learning and deep learning methods have been conducted. However, many machine learning and deep learning-based methods require significant effort to design the detection feature values, extract the feature values from network packets, and acquire the labeled data used for model training. To solve the aforementioned problems, this paper proposes a new model called DOC-IDS, which is an intrusion detection system based on Perera's deep one-class classification. The DOC-IDS, which comprises a pair of one-dimensional convolutional neural networks and an autoencoder, uses three different loss functions for training. Although, in general, only regular traffic from the computer network subject to detection is used for anomaly detection training, the DOC-IDS also uses multi-class labeled traffic from open datasets for feature extraction. Therefore, by streamlining the classification task on multi-class labeled traffic, we can obtain a feature representation with highly enhanced data discrimination abilities. Simultaneously, we perform variance minimization in the feature space, even on regular traffic, to further improve the model's ability to discriminate between normal and abnormal traffic. The DOC-IDS is a single deep learning model that can automatically perform feature extraction and anomaly detection. This paper also reports experiments for evaluating the anomaly detection performance of the DOC-IDS. To ensure the safe operation of highway traffic lines, given the imperfect feature extraction of existing road pit defect detection models and the practicability of detection equipment, this paper proposes a lightweight target detection algorithm with enhanced feature extraction based on the YOLO (You Only Look Once) algorithm. The BIFPN (Bidirectional Feature Pyramid Network) network structure is used for multi-scale feature fusion to enhance the feature extraction ability, and Varifocal Loss is used to optimize the sample imbalance problem, which improves the accuracy of road defect target detection. In the evaluation test of the model in the constructed PCD1 (Pavement Check Dataset) dataset, the mAP@.5 (mean Average Precision when IoU = 0.5) of the BV-YOLOv5S (BiFPN Varifocal Loss-YOLOv5S) model increased by 4.1%, 3%, and 0.9%, respectively, compared with the YOLOv3-tiny, YOLOv5S, and B-YOLOv5S (BiFPN-YOLOv5S; BV-YOLOv5S does not use the Improved Focal Loss function) models. Through the analysis and comparison of experimental results, it is proved that the proposed BV-YOLOv5S network model performs better and is more reliable in the detection of pavement defects and can meet the needs of road safety detection projects with high real-time and flexibility requirements. This paper proposes a data valuation algorithm for inertial measurement unit-based human activity recognition (IMU-based HAR) data based on meta reinforcement learning. Unlike previous studies that received feature-level input, the algorithm in this study added a feature extraction structure to the data valuation algorithm, and it can receive raw-level inputs and achieve excellent performance. As IMU-based HAR data are multivariate time-series data, the proposed algorithm incorporates an architecture capable of extracting both local and global features by inserting a transformer encoder after the one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) backbone in the data value estimator. In addition, the 1D-CNN-based stacking ensemble structure, which exhibits excellent efficiency and performance on IMU-based HAR data, is used as a predictor to supervise model training. The Berg balance scale (BBS) IMU-based HAR dataset and the public datasets, UCI-HAR, WISDM, and PAMAP2, are used for performance evaluation in this study. The valuation performance of the proposed algorithm is observed to be excellent on IMU-based HAR data. The rate of discovering corrupted data is higher than 96% on all datasets. The polysomnogram (PSG) is the gold standard for evaluating sleep quality and disorders. Attempts to automate this process have been hampered by the complexity of the PSG signals and heterogeneity among subjects and recording hardwares. Most of the existing methods for automatic sleep stage scoring rely on hand-engineered features that require prior knowledge of sleep analysis. This paper presents an end-to-end deep transfer learning framework for automatic feature extraction and sleep stage scoring based on a single-channel EEG. The proposed framework was evaluated over the three primary signals recommended by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (C4-M1, F4-M1, O2-M1) from two data sets that have different properties and are recorded with different hardware. Different Time–Frequency (TF) imaging approaches were evaluated to generate TF representations for the 30 s EEG sleep epochs, eliminating the need for complex EEG signal pre-processing or manual feature extraction. Several training and detection scenarios were investigated using transfer learning of convolutional neural networks (CNN) and combined with recurrent neural networks. Generating TF images from continuous wavelet transform along with a deep transfer architecture composed of a pre-trained GoogLeNet CNN followed by a bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) network showed the best scoring performance among all tested scenarios. Using 20-fold cross-validation applied on the C4-M1 channel, the proposed framework achieved an average per-class accuracy of 91.2%, sensitivity of 77%, specificity of 94.1%, and precision of 75.9%. Our results demonstrate that without changing the model architecture and the training algorithm, our model could be applied to different single-channel EEGs from different data sets. Most importantly, the proposed system receives a single EEG epoch as an input at a time and produces a single corresponding output label, making it suitable for real time monitoring outside sleep labs as well as to help sleep lab specialists arrive at a more accurate diagnoses. This paper is concerned with individual identification by late fusion of two-stream deep networks from Electromyogram (EMG) signals. EMG signal has more advantages on security compared to other biosignals exposed visually, such as the face, iris, and fingerprints, when used for biometrics, at least in the aspect of visual exposure, because it is measured through contact without any visual exposure. Thus, we propose an ensemble deep learning model by late information fusion of convolutional neural networks (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) from EMG signals for robust and discriminative biometrics. For this purpose, in the ensemble model's first stream, one-dimensional EMG signals were converted into time–frequency representation to train a two-dimensional convolutional neural network (EmgCNN). In the second stream, statistical features were extracted from one-dimensional EMG signals to train a long short-term memory (EmgLSTM) that uses sequence input. Here, the EMG signals were divided into fixed lengths, and feature values were calculated for each interval. A late information fusion is performed by the output scores of two deep learning models to obtain a final classification result. To confirm the superiority of the proposed method, we use an EMG database constructed at Chosun University and a public EMG database. In this paper, we present a novel methodology based on machine learning for identifying the most appropriate from a set of available state-of-the-art object detectors for a given application. Our particular interest is to develop a road map for identifying verifiably optimal selections, especially for challenging applications such as detecting small objects in a mixed-size object dataset. State-of-the-art object detection systems often find the localisation of small-size objects challenging since most are usually trained on large-size objects. These contain abundant information as they occupy a large number of pixels relative to the total image size. This fact is normally exploited by the model during training and inference processes. To dissect and understand this process, our approach systematically examines detectors' performances using two very distinct deep convolutional networks. The first is the single-stage YOLO V3 and the second is the double-stage Faster R-CNN. Specifically, our proposed method explores and visually illustrates the impact of feature extraction layers, number of anchor boxes, data augmentation, etc., utilising ideas from the field of explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI). Our results, for example, show that multi-head YOLO V3 detectors trained using augmented data produce better performance even with a fewer number of anchor boxes. Moreover, robustness regarding the detector's ability to explain how a specific decision was reached is investigated using different explanation techniques. Finally, two new visualisation techniques are proposed, WS-Grad and Concat-Grad, for identifying explanation cues of different detectors. These are applied to specific object detection tasks to illustrate their reliability and transparency with respect to the decision process. It is shown that the proposed techniques can result in high resolution and comprehensive heatmaps of the image areas, significantly affecting detector decisions as compared to the state-of-the-art techniques tested. In aerospace, marine, and other heavy industries, bearing fault diagnosis has been an essential part of improving machine life, reducing economic losses, and avoiding safety problems caused by machine bearing failures. Most existing bearing fault diagnosis methods face challenges in extracting the fault features from raw bearing fault data. Compared with traditional methods for bearing fault characteristics extraction, deep neural networks can automatically extract intrinsic features without expert knowledge. The convolutional neural network (CNN) was utilized most widely in extracting representative features of bearing faults. Fundamental to this, the hybrid models based on the CNN and individual classifiers were proposed to diagnose bearing faults. However, CNN may not be suitable for all bearing fault classifiers. It is crucial to identify the classifiers which can maximize the CNN feature extraction ability. In this paper, four hybrid models based on CNN were built, and their fault detection accuracy and efficiency were compared. In this paper, we propose a symmetric series convolutional neural network (SS-CNN), which is a novel deep convolutional neural network (DCNN)-based super-resolution (SR) technique for ultrasound medical imaging. The proposed model comprises two parts: a feature extraction network (FEN) and an up-sampling layer. In the FEN, the low-resolution (LR) counterpart of the ultrasound image passes through a symmetric series of two different DCNNs. The low-level feature maps obtained from the subsequent layers of both DCNNs are concatenated in a feed forward manner, aiding in robust feature extraction to ensure high reconstruction quality. Subsequently, the final concatenated features serve as an input map to the latter 2D convolutional layers, where the textural information of the input image is connected via skip connections. The second part of the proposed model is a sub-pixel convolutional (SPC) layer, which up-samples the output of the FEN by multiplying it with a multi-dimensional kernel followed by a periodic shuffling operation to reconstruct a high-quality SR ultrasound image. We validate the performance of the SS-CNN with publicly available ultrasound image datasets. Experimental results show that the proposed model achieves a high-quality reconstruction of the ultrasound image over the conventional methods in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity index (SSIM), while providing compelling SR reconstruction time. Multi-modal medical image fusion (MMIF) is crucial for disease diagnosis and treatment because the images reconstructed from signals collected by different sensors can provide complementary information. In recent years, deep learning (DL) based methods have been widely used in MMIF. However, these methods often adopt a serial fusion strategy without feature decomposition, causing error accumulation and confusion of characteristics across different scales. To address these issues, we have proposed the Coupled Image Reconstruction and Fusion (CIRF) strategy. Our method parallels the image fusion and reconstruction branches which are linked by a common encoder. Firstly, CIRF uses the lightweight encoder to extract base and detail features, respectively, through the Vision Transformer (ViT) and the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) branches, where the two branches interact to supplement information. Then, two types of features are fused separately via different blocks and finally decoded into fusion results. In the loss function, both the supervised loss from the reconstruction branch and the unsupervised loss from the fusion branch are included. As a whole, CIRF increases its expressivity by adding multi-task learning and feature decomposition. Additionally, we have also explored the impact of image masking on the network's feature extraction ability and validated the generalization capability of the model. Through experiments on three datasets, it has been demonstrated both subjectively and objectively, that the images fused by CIRF exhibit appropriate brightness and smooth edge transition with more competitive evaluation metrics than those fused by several other traditional and DL-based methods. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a prevalent sleep disorder, is intimately associated with various other diseases, particularly cardiovascular conditions. The conventional diagnostic method, nocturnal polysomnography (PSG), despite its widespread use, faces challenges due to its high cost and prolonged duration. Recent developments in electrocardiogram-based diagnostic techniques have opened new avenues for addressing these challenges, although they often require a deep understanding of feature engineering. In this study, we introduce an innovative method for OSA classification that combines a composite deep convolutional neural network model with a multimodal strategy for automatic feature extraction. This approach involves transforming the original dataset into scalogram images that reflect heart rate variability attributes and Gramian angular field matrix images that reveal temporal characteristics, aiming to enhance the diversity and richness of data features. The model comprises automatic feature extraction and feature enhancement components and has been trained and validated on the PhysioNet Apnea-ECG database. The experimental results demonstrate the model's exceptional performance in diagnosing OSA, achieving an accuracy of 96.37%, a sensitivity of 94.67%, a specificity of 97.44%, and an AUC of 0.96. In the realm of hyperspectral image classification, the pursuit of heightened accuracy and comprehensive feature extraction has led to the formulation of an advance architectural paradigm. This study proposed a model encapsulated within the framework of a unified model, which synergistically leverages the capabilities of three distinct branches: the swin transformer, convolutional neural network, and encoder–decoder. The main objective was to facilitate multiscale feature learning, a pivotal facet in hyperspectral image classification, with each branch specializing in unique facets of multiscale feature extraction. The swin transformer, recognized for its competence in distilling long-range dependencies, captures structural features across different scales; simultaneously, convolutional neural networks undertake localized feature extraction, engendering nuanced spatial information preservation. The encoder–decoder branch undertakes comprehensive analysis and reconstruction, fostering the assimilation of both multiscale spectral and spatial intricacies. To evaluate our approach, we conducted experiments on publicly available datasets and compared the results with state-of-the-art methods. Driver distraction is considered a main cause of road accidents, every year, thousands of people obtain serious injuries, and most of them lose their lives. In addition, a continuous increase can be found in road accidents due to driver's distractions, such as talking, drinking, and using electronic devices, among others. Similarly, several researchers have developed different traditional deep learning techniques for the efficient detection of driver activity. However, the current studies need further improvement due to the higher number of false predictions in real time. To cope with these issues, it is significant to develop an effective technique which detects driver's behavior in real time to prevent human lives and their property from being damaged. In this work, we develop a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based technique with the integration of a channel attention (CA) mechanism for efficient and effective detection of driver behavior. Moreover, we compared the proposed model with solo and integration flavors of various backbone models and CA such as VGG16, VGG16+CA, ResNet50, ResNet50+CA, Xception, Xception+CA, InceptionV3, InceptionV3+CA, and EfficientNetB0. Additionally, the proposed model obtained optimal performance in terms of evaluation metrics, for instance, accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score using two well-known datasets such as AUC Distracted Driver (AUCD2) and State Farm Distracted Driver Detection (SFD3). Recently, deep learning (DL) approaches have been extensively employed to recognize human activities in smart buildings, which greatly broaden the scope of applications in this field. Convolutional neural networks (CNN), well known for feature extraction and activity classification, have been applied for estimating human activities. However, most CNN-based techniques usually focus on divided sequences associated to activities, since many real-world employments require information about human activities in real time. In this work, an online human activity recognition (HAR) framework on streaming sensor is proposed. The methodology incorporates real-time dynamic segmentation, stigmergy-based encoding, and classification with a CNN2D. Dynamic segmentation decides if two succeeding events belong to the same activity segment or not. Then, because a CNN2D requires a multi-dimensional format in input, stigmergic track encoding is adopted to build encoded features in a multi-dimensional format. It adopts the directed weighted network (DWN) that takes into account the human spatio-temporal tracks with a requirement of overlapping activities. It represents a matrix that describes an activity segment. Once the DWN for each activity segment is determined, a CNN2D with a DWN in input is adopted to classify activities. This work provides a 3D hand attitude estimation approach for fixed hand posture based on a CNN and LightGBM for dual-view RGB images to facilitate the application of hand posture teleoperation. First, using dual-view cameras and an IMU sensor, we provide a simple method for building 3D hand posture datasets. This method can quickly acquire dual-view 2D hand image sets and automatically append the appropriate three-axis attitude angle labels. Then, combining ensemble learning, which has strong regression fitting capabilities, with deep learning, which has excellent automatic feature extraction capabilities, we present an integrated hand attitude CNN regression model. This model uses a Bayesian optimization based LightGBM in the ensemble learning algorithm to produce 3D hand attitude regression and two CNNs to extract dual-view hand image features. Finally, a mapping from dual-view 2D images to 3D hand attitude angles is established using a training approach for feature integration, and a comparative experiment is run on the test set. The results of the experiments demonstrate that the suggested method may successfully solve the hand self-occlusion issue and accomplish 3D hand attitude estimation using only two normal RGB cameras. Cooperative network is a promising concept for achieving a high-accuracy decision of spectrum sensing in cognitive radio networks. It enables a collaborative exchange of the sensing measurements among the network users to monitor the primary spectrum occupancy. However, the presence of malicious users leads to harmful interferences in the system by transmitting incorrect local sensing observations.To overcome this security related problem and to improve the accuracy decision of spectrum sensing in cooperative cognitive radio networks, we proposed a new approach based on two machine learning solutions. For the first solution, a new stacking model-based malicious users detection is proposed, using two innovative techniques, including chaotic compressive sensing technique-based authentication for feature extraction with a minimum of measurements and an ensemble machine learning technique for users classification. For the second solution, a novel deep learning technique is proposed, using scalogram images as inputs for the primary user spectrum's classification. The simulation results show the high efficiency of both proposed solutions, where the accuracy of the new stacking model reaches 97% in the presence of 50% of malicious users, while the new scalogram technique-based spectrum sensing is fast and achieves a high probability of detection with a lower number of epochs and a low probability of false alarm. The adoption of artificial intelligence in post-earthquake inspections and reconnaissance has received considerable attention in recent years, owing to its exponential increase in computation capabilities and inherent potential in addressing disadvantages associated with manual inspections. Herein, we present the effectiveness of automated deep learning in enhancing the assessment of damage caused by the 2017 Pohang earthquake. Six classical pre-trained convolutional neural network (CNN) models are implemented through transfer learning (TL) on a small dataset, comprising 1780 manually labeled images of structural damage. Feature extraction and fine-tuning TL methods are trained on the image datasets. The performances of various CNN models are compared on a testing image dataset. Results confirm that the MobileNet fine-tuned model offers the best performance. Therefore, the model is further developed as a web-based application for classifying earthquake damage. The severity of damage is quantified by assigning damage assessment values, derived using the CNN model and gradient-weighted class activation mapping. The web-based application can effectively and automatically classify structural damage resulting from earthquakes, rendering it suitable for decision making, such as in resource allocation, policy development, and emergency response. The existing electrocardiogram (ECG) biometrics do not perform well when ECG changes after the enrollment phase because the feature extraction is not able to relate ECG collected during enrollment and ECG collected during classification. In this research, we propose the sequence pair feature extractor, inspired by Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT)'s sentence pair task, to obtain a dynamic representation of a pair of ECGs. We also propose using the self-attention mechanism of the transformer to draw an inter-identity relationship when performing ECG identification tasks. The model was trained once with datasets built from 10 ECG databases, and then, it was applied to six other ECG databases without retraining. We emphasize the significance of the time separation between enrollment and classification when presenting the results. The model scored 96.20%, 100.0%, 99.91%, 96.09%, 96.35%, and 98.10% identification accuracy on MIT-BIH Atrial Fibrillation Database (AFDB), Combined measurement of ECG, Breathing and Seismocardiograms (CEBSDB), MIT-BIH Normal Sinus Rhythm Database (NSRDB), MIT-BIH ST Change Database (STDB), ECG-ID Database (ECGIDDB), and PTB Diagnostic ECG Database (PTBDB), respectively, over a short time separation. The model scored 92.70% and 64.16% identification accuracy on ECGIDDB and PTBDB, respectively, over a long time separation, which is a significant improvement compared to state-of-the-art methods. Brain tumor analysis is essential to the timely diagnosis and effective treatment of patients. Tumor analysis is challenging because of tumor morphology factors like size, location, texture, and heteromorphic appearance in medical images. In this regard, a novel two-phase deep learning-based framework is proposed to detect and categorize brain tumors in magnetic resonance images (MRIs). In the first phase, a novel deep-boosted features space and ensemble classifiers (DBFS-EC) scheme is proposed to effectively detect tumor MRI images from healthy individuals. The deep-boosted feature space is achieved through customized and well-performing deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and consequently, fed into the ensemble of machine learning (ML) classifiers. While in the second phase, a new hybrid features fusion-based brain-tumor classification approach is proposed, comprised of both static and dynamic features with an ML classifier to categorize different tumor types. The dynamic features are extracted from the proposed brain region-edge net (BRAIN-RENet) CNN, which is able to learn the heteromorphic and inconsistent behavior of various tumors. In contrast, the static features are extracted by using a histogram of gradients (HOG) feature descriptor. The effectiveness of the proposed two-phase brain tumor analysis framework is validated on two standard benchmark datasets, which were collected from Kaggle and Figshare and contain different types of tumors, including glioma, meningioma, pituitary, and normal images. Experimental results suggest that the proposed DBFS-EC detection scheme outperforms the standard and achieved accuracy (99.56%), precision (0.9991), recall (0.9899), F1-Score (0.9945), MCC (0.9892), and AUC-PR (0.9990). The classification scheme, based on the fusion of feature spaces of proposed BRAIN-RENet and HOG, outperform state-of-the-art methods significantly in terms of recall (0.9913), precision (0.9906), accuracy (99.20%), and F1-Score (0.9909) in the CE-MRI dataset. In recent years, Human Activity Recognition (HAR) has become one of the most important research topics in the domains of health and human-machine interaction. Many Artificial intelligence-based models are developed for activity recognition; however, these algorithms fail to extract spatial and temporal features due to which they show poor performance on real-world long-term HAR. Furthermore, in literature, a limited number of datasets are publicly available for physical activities recognition that contains less number of activities. Considering these limitations, we develop a hybrid model by incorporating Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) for activity recognition where CNN is used for spatial features extraction and LSTM network is utilized for learning temporal information. Additionally, a new challenging dataset is generated that is collected from 20 participants using the Kinect V2 sensor and contains 12 different classes of human physical activities. An extensive ablation study is performed over different traditional machine learning and deep learning models to obtain the optimum solution for HAR.
