Abstract
This paper analyzes the academic results of the linguistic subjects that deal mainly with linguistic communicative competence and that are taught in Spanish Secondary Education (ESO). This study is carried out in light of the educational changes that occurred between 2001-2014 and that sought an effective school. The selected sample is the scores of 2,391 1st, 2nd and 3rd ESO students according to the academic management database PINCEL EKADE (2001 and 2014). The different academic levels in which the mean and the tendency of the linguistic subjects have been examined have been taken into account. The empirical analysis of the trend of the qualifications shows that the improvement in academic results is due to the positive influence of attention to diversity and not to the implementation of basic skills.
